I’m at a turning point in my life where it’s time to do the things I want to do…use my passion. I might sound a little selfish, but if you knew me, you would know that I deserve this chance at last. I’m no longer that guy’s classmate, that girl’s sorority president, that high schooler’s softball coach, that editor’s intern, I am still half of Fullerton’s bartender, but hey, I couldn’t give it all up at once. I’m Jen, and I’m just starting my life. College is done, I leave soon for Europe…second time around and not a moment too soon. If there was one piece of advice I could give to people my age, it would be to travel. Jobs and careers can wait, but the things you will experience on your own in a foreign country will teach you about life and you can’t find them sitting in a cubicle. Go! Learn about people living opposite lives, cultures so different from your own and I promise you will end up finding yourself and being more inspired than you ever imagined. So, about me, well, where do I start…I want to do everything. When I’m not traveling, I’m bartending. Before you judge or make assumptions, think about it this way. I bartend half the amount of hours of an entry-level employee and I make three times what they make in that amount of time. I can get time off whenever I want to travel the world and I have time to work on my real passions: writing, philanthropy work and trying to act…emphasis on the ‘trying’, it’s a cutthroat business. Plus, I meet so many people at those bars I could probably run for city council. And I do enjoy the customers and stories that inspire my writing. So if you really want to knock me for having two degrees, but using my drink knowledge to pay the bills, I challenge your argument. Upon my European return I will move to LA to be closer to these passions. Don’t worry Fullerton, I will most likely still be getting you drunk for awhile. I still plan to move to the big apple soon, I just need a little more time here before I go. Back to wanting to do it all...my first order of business is a book I’m working on called THE FUTURE SPEAKS. It’s an inspirational book about the opinions, ideas and suggestions of our generation (the future) of how to change our world for the better. A couple other things on my list…feed the homeless, stop the AIDS epidemic, stop genocide (if you think it doesn’t still exist, you are so naïve), empower women, stop domestic violence, and any other cause that could use my help. I know what you’re thinking…that’s too much for one person...even one of those is too much for one person. But you know what? If people didn’t think and dream big, the most remarkable things in life would never happen. At least I have an idea of what I want to do and I know that I will put all of myself into it. Find something you’re passionate about and go for it. No one will be able to stop you…
