I migrated to the UK in the late 1980's armed with ambition; I put my feelers out and was fortunate enough to get a start by doing jingles on a popular pirate radio station. During that time I was participating in some small radio workshop courses, to strengthen my radio skills in areas such as interviewing and editing. By the early 90’s I chose to further my knowledge base by joining another pirate station, this musical avenue had to change its name frequently to remain under the radar of the DTI. Because of Governmental regulations pirate stations were risky business, so to create a solid future for myself, I shopped around and landed a spot on one of the legal stations. Since my music of focus at that time was Roots and Conscious Reggae, G.C.R.N (Greenwich Community Radio Network) seemed to be the best home for me, where I became the host of the 'Conscious Party Show'. G.C.R.N also found itself going off air so I took the time to pursue and complete a degree in Mass Communications at the University of London. With my love of music I stretched my hand in many musical directions; I was the Owner and Operator of a record shop in London, while also forming a sound system with some friends. The sound got exposure by playing at house parties, but, my friends soon got fed up with me because I loved the music but could not stay out late partying, so….they kicked me out!
It is satisfying to know that dreams can become reality and I am living proof. I was given the opportunity to fulfill my childhood dream by becoming a radio personality in the country of my birth. I am Tony Gallimore and I currently host 'Saturday Night Takeover' on News Talk 93 FM. I cater to reggae lovers by supplying the best in Dancehall and switching up the style for the urban music lover , by spinning Hip Hop and R&B, remixes make some things old, new again, so you can listen out for these features as well. I appreciate new vibes and lend a hand where I can to positive new artists by featuring their works.
I am often times hurt by the crimes committed against innocent women and children but unfortunately, it seems, that is the sad turn that the world is taking these days! Everyone seems to be faced with countless obstacles and stumbling blocks at every turn; do not allow yourself to be hampered by anything or anyone! We cannot let anything get in our way in our quest to greatness, not even age! There may be one, or many people who feel the way you do but do not have the ability to express themselves in a musical format. Don’t forget, by sending me your work you are helping to break down barriers and allowing your voice to be heard, Our voice to be heard.
