About Me

All right...here we go. Sucka Punch started in 1996. A full bio would take more time than they care to write or you would want to read, so here it is in a nutshell. Mike, Brian and Bun were in a punk ska band in 1991 called DEADFINGER when the rest of us were in flannel, listening to Nirvana and pretending we never really liked heavy metal. Pierre moved to Reno in 1996 and hooked up with the band, who decided a new name would compliment the new line up. Horn players Cody Forcier (trombone) and Chris Ferrari (sax) were recruited from the local university and the band was born. SP released a 5 song EP (the Super Bun 6000 Prototype") and two full length CD's ("The Proof is in the Punch" and "Bustin Roids.")Following the 1999 release of Bustin Roids, SP caused quite a stir and found themselves sharing the stage with Reel Big Fish, Pennywise, No Use For a Name, Good Riddance, Anti Flag, 7 Seconds, The Suicide Machines, Guttermouth, Youth Brigade, the Blue Meanies, MU330, and a few stints on the Van's Warped Tour. SP spoke with a few labels that expressed interest in them based on the number of CDs which sold and charted on Soundscan, but for one reason or another, no deals ever materialized (except one with Santa Barbara's Fishbowl Records, which released "Bustin Roids"). SP songs were featured in T.V. comercials (yeah, no shit) and on numerous compilations including one from Dill Records.Chris (a political science major) left the band to get Governor Guinn elected, Cody (a music major) went on to earn a Masters in Music Education and is now a band director at a local middle school. SP wrote and released a self-titled record in 2004. The original members, Mike, Brian, Pierre and Bun have appeared on every Sucka Punch record, so no matter which one you have, the sound is authentic and true to formula. They are best friends and in many ways a family. The band went on hiatus in 2006, when Brian announced unexpectedly that he was moving to Oregon to be near his family. Mike, Pierre and Bun auditioned a few guitar players but decided without one of the four core members, the band was not the same so they placed the band on hold. Brian is now back and there is a brand new record written and waiting to be recorded (the songs are preserved on a 4-track). Will it ever happen? We'll have to wait and see.
