Top 10 rock shows of the past 10 years
A look back at some of Calgary’s most memorable live show moments
The past 10 years of music in Calgary has seen the rise and fall of many genres and trends. Everything from balls-out rock, power-punk trios, DJ culture, alt-rock, indie emo kids and alt-country singer-songwriters have at one time or another fallen in and out of favour with Calgary audiences.
Here’s my top 10 list of most memorable live show moments in Calgary in the last 10 years (nine great and one terrible, but amazingly so). Some of you will feel nostalgic – others will be downright disagreeable. But these were the shows that resonated with me the most.

9. The Constantines (2004), one of the last all-ages shows to take place at Carpenters’ Union Hall with Hot Little Rocket and The Buzzing Bees – I don’t believe in spiritual gatherings, but this show was as close as I have ever had to a religious experience. The crowd clapped and swayed, falling short of screaming "Hallelujah" when the Constantines played. The best indie-rock revival I have ever seen, with a bass player so intoxicated you thought he was going to pass out on his drummer. Can I get a witness? Hell yah!
