About Me

Les anges dérangent...
Leurs voisins cabotins
Qui ne comprennent pas
Ce qui n'se controle pas...
C'est que dans les coeurs,
Il y a des pleurs...
Il y a des fleurs...
Il y a des rires...
Et il y a pire...
Qui comprendra?
Avant le trepas?
Que l'amour est fort,
Plus fort que la mort...
Oui, que l'amour,
C'EST POUR TOUJOURS !!

What's in a name? ' K e e p e r ' . . . well, that's the translation of his french name which means 'Keeper of orchards' or 'Guardian of fruit-bearing trees'... yeah, and the french version which we won't show here, won't be shown here -lol-
ok, so... Keeper has been into music since he was a little kid. After the sudden and dramatic divorce of his parents, he found an old piano at school and started to hammer it everytime he could instead of going to recess because he needed a way to vent his pain and frustration... (especially because of the harassment and violence at home with the new 'step'... little keeper would have followed any stranger to flee that situation... well, he actually did and that led him to street gangs, drugs and everything else that comes along with this life style, but ok, let's not get into that sad story (beware parents!)
So, yeah (got a little side-tracked here, sorry :) the first piece ever played (and with only one finger, haha) was a German classique from J.S. Bach that he heard and liked because it was soothing his heart... one day the music teacher was passing by the classroom and noticed the effort of the young keeper to try to put it together and he offered to teach him how to play with 10 fingers lol...
"sure" he said, and fortunately, the teacher's favorite music was jazz and pop, so keeper got to learn songs like Guershwin's 'Summertime', some Sidney Bechet (Little Flower), Procolarum's 'Water Shade Of Pale', a piece of arabesque style called 'Caravan', and 'Take 5' by Dave Brubeck, amoung others...
This litterally jumped started him into performing live and later, composing his own stuff. One day, on Bastille Day in Paris, he got to perform an impro for more than 70,000 people gathered for a 14th of July concert (the French equivalent of the 4th in the US) after well known and loved artist 'Higelin' offered to give the stage to random artists in the audience (that's crazy, but that's Higelin for you! haha!) ...
So, keeper who was standing right there, next to the main stage, litterally jumped on it, seized the Fender Rhodes that was left alone and started to play a fiery groove on it, which was quickly followed and accompanied by the remaining musicians, and the riff totally inflammed the crowd into clapping and dancing joyfully. One of the best days of his life, no kidding! lol... (and a fair payback for a broken hearted kid... :)
He could never completely abandon his love for classical fugues, so his music often have some kinda classical insert here and there, which sometimes comes at a surprise, but it brings a refreshing contrast in the middle of a pop rendition or even Rock, by making the lead guitare play a classical type of solo toward the end, to elevate the performance and bring the song to its climax... after which keeper ends it by just speaking with a soft, reassuring but deep and straighforward voice...
woaaa! It's extremely powerful and unique. He was told that his voice in the verses of that particular rock song sounded a bit like David Bowie (but not the yelling part, which is absolutely unique to him, haha :)
alright, enough said... just go there and hear it yourself :) you won't be disapointed! (unless the lyrics content bugs you, but that's another story lol :)
btw, the song after that is some kinda 'back to the groove' type song that has a harmonica lead in the middle that's to die for (played by nontheless Geoff-the-cool-glass-blower-dude-from-Eugene Glass Menagerie) Personally i love it, cause it sounds like Stevie Wonder, i mean not the solo itself, but the sound, and i guess it's because the same professional brand of harmonica is used here)
Also this song starts and ends with a cool chilling whistling over Fender Rhodes chords that's out of this world... it has for effect to relax you and to send you outer space or through heaven's gates or something lol... it's almost like therapy, but more like a spiritual experience , yeah, you'll see... then the 'groove'n soul' comes on... aaaaaaaaahhhhh-LLLOVE IT !!!!
