Here's why I support Senator Barack Obama for President:
First off, let me say that I think it's amazing that we are choosing between two candidates who are well-equipped to accomplish some important Democratic goals:
- Get out of Iraq
- Rid the Federal Code of anti-LGBT bias
- Establish universal healthcare
- Fix No Child Left Behind and continue to improve our education system
I believe that both Hillary and Barack could do all these things, and I think their positions on each are basically identical. And because there's no substantive difference in their positions today, I dig a little further and think about the following things:
- Barack has always opposed the Defense of Marriage Act and Don't Ask, Don't Tell, while Hillary supported both in the 1990s.
- Barack spoke out against invading Iraq, even though it was politically dangerous, while Hillary voted to authorize the war.
Moreover, I believe that Barack rejects the divisive politics of the past and has a unique ability to speak to what unites all Americans, even independents and Republicans. And the numbers prove it: In 2004, Howard Dean received campaign contributions from a record 200,000 supporters. As of this moment, over 1,030,000 people have donated to Barack's campaign.
