About Us:
Avant-garde means "advance guard" or "vanguard" in french. The word is used in English to refer to people or works that are experimental or innovative, particularly with respect to art, culture, and politics.
Formerly known as Colfest in 2007 till 2008, it start of with the idea of sharing the one point of view with others. The Founder, apekgaijin then set colfest up while he was a student in Multimedia University (mmu), Melaka. They start of collaborating with mmu college management to organize their annual event and a few years later they made a loads of friend and artist who share the same dreams and hope for the art scene here in Malaysia.
Avant-garde represents a pushing of the boundaries of what is accepted as the norm or the status quo, primarily in the cultural realm. The notion of the existence of the avant-garde is considered by some to be a hallmark of modernism, as distinct from postmodernism. However, this is not true in the case of music as many pieces are still being released which are generally considered avant-garde in popular culture. Many artists have aligned themselves with the avant-garde movement and still continue to do so, tracing a history from Dada to the Situationists to postmodern artists such as the L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E writers in the 1980s.
With this basic idea we are an independent movement which involve in researching, producing, publishing, and managing art based projects and events here in Malaysia. We are passionate to participate in any art production and collaboration from paintings to theater to films to music. We are here to support our fellow independent scene artist and musician. all across the world and especially Malaysia.
