MUSIC and FOOD first and foremost. I'm a domestic goddess with an eclectic musical taste. ART. Untying knots. Sitting on kitchen counters. I like things that are made "in house". HIKING, biking, and sand castles, oh my. I appreciate good design, (I also appreciate good tequila..doh!). Field botany. Lighting options. Simplicity (what's with all the drama these days?) And simple random acts like dropping frozen green peas on passersby from the tops of buildings, you know, the usual.
Witty, playful people. Is that so much to ask? And no dull people please. Normalcy is about as interesting as white bread...it might pay the bills but this is your life we're talking about. (I also secretly like boys who ride bikes....and that's in bicycles, not motorcycles.)
Postal Service, The Knife, The Flaming Lips, Jim Noir, The Dandy Warhols, Bright Eyes, The Decemberists, Mum, Built to Spill, Modest Mouse, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Shins, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Beulah, Wilco, Pavement, Nick Drake, The Pixies, Public Enemy, PJ Harvey, Billie Holiday, Soul Coughing, Thievery Corporation, Belle and Sebastian, Sandy Denny, Yo La Tengo, A Tribe Called Quest, Bob Dylan, Buffalo Tom, Tom Waits, House music, Glenn Gould playing Bach, Andre Segovia playing Bach, and J.S. Bach himself.
I lean toward anything darkly comic (along the lines of Election, Delicatesson, etc.) and scare me out of my seat horror/thriller movies. (Insert blood curdling scream here __________________). Todd Solondz films (Welcome to the Dollhouse, Storytelling, Happiness), Parker Posey's early work (I say that like she's washed up or something), Kirosawa films, WITHNAIL and I, True Romance, The Hudsucker Proxy, documentaries, shorts, Sundance and IFC picks, cult classics, foreign cinema and I have a certain fascination with Karen Black movies. Know her? She freaks me out. She's the goddess of B-flicks (and then a few gems like Easy Rider). I also found a few vintage porn movies from the 70's in a discard box left on the street. Hilarious "Quality Adult Videos" mind you. (Yes, I still have a VHS.)
I don't think I've sat through an entire episode of anything in the last year. It must be my ADD kicking in....that or grad school. Alright, who's got the Ritalin? Hand 'em over...
Currently reading Awakening Intuition, Collapse, and Killing Yourself to Live...which by title, sounds like a book about eating disorders. It's actually about a guy on a road trip to famous spots in Rock-n-Roll history..."85% of a true story," Klosterman says. Hilarious. Old faves include East of Eden, Bastard out of Carolina, Geek Love, The Crying of Lot 49, anything by John Steinbeck, John Irving, David Sedaris, Milan Kundera, and Dr. Seuss. However, I haven't read anything other than anatomy text books for what seems like forever now. They may not be page turners but I can palpate all your muscles and tell you about their attachment sites. Ahm.
