BOILERHOUSE originally formed in Batley, West Yorkshire, UK in late 1984 and eventually split sometime in 1987.
This MySpace site was set up basically to let people hear some of the music the band created during their existence. We were never signed and therefore we never had any of our music properly released – we just sold tapes of the demos to anybody who requested them.
The original line up consisted of Joker (vocals), Rich (bass), Ade (guitar), Egg (drums).
This line up recorded the Jack Hammer demo in April 85 and the Heads Off! (When Ya Talkin' To Me) demo in August 87.
Tonka replaced Egg on drums in late 1985 and this new line up recorded a further two demos - Texas Pig Injection in March 86 and Dredger in June 86.
Front man Joker left the band in late 86 and the band recruited Andy, a mate of the band from Leeds, to replace him.
This was the final line up of the band and a final demo Tequila & Bach, with Andy on vocals, was recorded in May 87.
We did all our recording sessions at Lion Studio in Leeds – a very popular studio at the time used by many Leeds/West Yorkshire bands. In total we recorded about 30 tracks across all the demos. We also had several other tracks we played live that never got recorded.
There were no fancy recording techniques, minimal overdubs and the ‘samples’ were dropped in manually using a standard tape recorder and a good ear. Eat that kids.
We did about 20 odd gigs in our existence – the majority when Joker was front man.
Most of the gigs were in and around West Yorkshire with the occasional trip to Manchester.
We did support slots to King Kurt, The Inca Babies and Captain Sensible. Most other gigs we did with our close mates Legion (see our friends for a link to their site).
We were at our best live and managed to acquire quite a reputation for our gigs – not always a good reputation. Things got broken, people got hurt (usually us). Some places banned us.
With Joker as front man performances were often wild, chaotic and probably intimidating, but at least they were entertaining. Bands are so dull nowadays.
We had a good laugh, enjoyed what we did and recorded what we consider to be some good tunes on the way.
The intervening years have not been kind and we now suffer greatly for our sins.
Burn up motherfuckers.
