About Me

ROSWELL47 (bounce records / vienna)
2009 roswell47 is still waving the flag for ghetto music and embracing all its variations in his strictly vinyl dj sets. from miami bass to atlanta, detroit ghettotech to chicago juke music, rio baile funk to baltimore club, kuduro and the latest efforts from europe. 15 year old tunes meet the latest shizzle and his hyped up mixes always make the girls go wild and shake their thangs on the dancefloor.
he began djing in the mid-90s with focus on techno bass/electro/ghetto bass. starting own vienna based club night "elektroploitation" in 1997 to concentrate on this neglected side of dancemusic. it was one of europe's first partyseries to feature ghetto music as its main content. elektroploitation, the enthusiastic crowd reaction and the media exposure it caused installed bass & ghettotech in austria's club scene then. at that time roswell 47 also took care of dj godfather's bookings for mainland europe.
some elektroploitation-acts included aux 88, dj assault, dj godfather, detroit grand pubahs, two lone swordsmen, juan atkins, andrew weatherall, dj di'Jital, dj dick nixon, i-f, dmx krew, anthony rother, pulsinger & tunakan, epy, mas 2008, dj shortstop, big daddy rick, alex is my bro, plak, etc.
some cities: vienna, linz, salzburg, graz, budapest, bratislava, zurich, wels, konstanz, jena, cologne, feldkirch, zell am see, klagenfurt, innsbruck, brno, labin, munich...
elektroploitation stopped 2001 and in late 2002 roswell47 & plak opened the recordshop Bounce Records, situated in the 4th district of vienna. meanwhile it has become vienna's main recordshop for urban sounds: Hiphop, R&B, Breaks, Drum & Bass, UK Garage/Grime/Dubstep, Electro, Ghetto Bass, Baltimore Club, Baile Funk, Reggaeton/Dancehall, etc.
aside from the recordstore and the onlineshop the 2 founders of Bounce are hosting a weekly radioshow on play.fm (every wed. 9-10pm) and throwing parties whenever they feel like doing so.

And yes, there were times before that:
I joined Vienna's Hardcore Punk originators Extrem on bass in 1987 after Hømal and Dani left the band, instantly recorded the "Wir sind so frei" 7", had local shows with Colera, Heresy, Kafka Prosess, Ignition, So Much Hate, etc. a tour through Germany with Puke and some gigs in Sweden/Norway where we played with Raped Teenagers, Angor Wat, ... I quit Extrem in 1988 to join some likeminded kids and named the band Cold World (aside from helping out a young band from Klagenfurt on bass at their first gig - Disharmonic Orchestra). The first line up split up soon but we eventually regrouped and had several releases on labels like Sacro Egoismo, Sound Pollution, B-Core and a certain German label who f**ked over everyone plus your mum. The 1993 7" "Pretentious A**holes" is still regarded as one of the few early 90s HC highlights causing more reactions over the last few years than it did back then. The band folded in 1994 and no, that US band using our name these days obviously has nothing to do with us.
We recently reunited the band, played a 20th anniversary show later in Vienna of late 2008, released a new EP on the Australian label Shortfuse Records, and there is more to come.
DIY gigs I helped out and/or organized in Vienna of the mid/late 80s and early 90s included names like So Much Hate, Ignition, Life But How To Live It, Extreme Noise Terror, Afflict, Accüsed, Ludichrist, Heresy, Lärm, Negazione, Rose Rose, Kings Of Oblivion, SOB, Agnostic Front, etc.
When Hardcore became a total bore i started attending early Techno- (and later Jungle-) parties in Vienna, was hooked by the energy and started djing.
Extreme unstructured music was of interest as well which resulted in the promotion of gigs by the likes of Merzbow, Keiji Haino, Carl Stone, and my participation in Hermann Nitsch's "Das 6-Tage Spiel des Orgien Mysterien Theaters" in 1998.
