About Me

About me:
On November 20th, 1998 my late Wife, Donna and I decided to try and make a go of a freshly started little web site that decided to close down. It consisted of a few informative pages on the illness of Fibromyalgia but what made it so important to keep it alive was the people on the Message Board.

We, along with a few others, had made some friendships that grew beyond the realms of average friendships. They were friendships of people that knew and understood exactly what our Family was going through, and that is a rare find. Together we shared our happy times, our sad times, our confusing times, and just generally shared our support of others and any given time.

At a time when I was at my wit's end with confusion, loneliness, fear, and turmoil, Donna found a group of people that were experiencing the very same thing. I just can't put in words the emotional feelings that gave to me, to us all.

A feeling of relief like the whole World was just lifted off my shoulders because I was not the only one! A feeling of happiness that I finally have someone to talk to that really understands and someone for Donna to talk with when she would get frustrated living with someone that has Fibromyalgia. And then a feeling of extreme sadness to know that their are others out there, so very kind and supportive, that suffer as greatly as I do every day and every night.

Then the group was small, but it was ever so powerful. For me the torment of extreme confusion, the terrorizing fear of the unknown, and the threatening inner discussions of not wanting to live this way anymore were all subsided when I found out that there are others like me. They comforted us, they shared with us, and they went to any lengths to give us all the support and understanding necessary to ease our suffering.

These feelings of inner peace needed to be shared. I could not be so selfish as to not share this awesome group with the World of sufferers so I went on a search for people who had no support system and suffered as I did. My mission was to reach as many Fibro sufferers as I could that were not already receiving positive support.

Well,,,,, I'm sad to say that the mission was successful. As of October, 2002 we are getting well over 1.6 Million hits on this site each and every month, we have over 4,000 Registered Members in chat, and about 11,500 Members signed up to our Newsletter. If this was a business that would be awesome News. Why sad? Because this shows that there are so many sufferers out there and most do not know what's wrong with them.

The second sad part is that the growth has brought on an enormous amount of extra work and costs. I want these sites available to everyone forever and I want it available for everyone to use free of charge, it's not fair that a person suffering pain should also have to suffer financially to receive help. I will never turn this site into a "pay to use" site.

Why not go NON-PROFIT is the question many ask. Yes, that would probably solve my financial burden but that just won't work for the purpose that I want this site to serve. When you are non-profit you are controlled by their Board or Directors and the Funding Agency. At times these may be the very people we need to lobby against to get something done for the benefit of our cause. We would need to give our ideas to them to discuss at their next available meetings. After THEY discuss OUR idea, they inform us IF we can do it. I'm not about to let a group of people, that have no clue or care what Fibro is, run this site.

The Fibrohugs sites are here for the benefit of Fibro Sufferers and if lobbying the Government or any other Organization is what's needed to get something done to improve our lifestyle then that's what will be done and we will make the decision ourselves.

My intent is to keep these site as a "free to use" site by selling merchandise through the Awareness Store, click-able Banner Ads, and donations from any person or business that can spare some though our main site at WWW.FIBROHUGS.COM . If you are fortunate enough to be in a position to help and need that warm feeling in your heart that you have done your part in helping suffering people in our world, we will gratefully accept it because it is going to a very needy and good cause.

Thank you for your support and it's my every wish that Fibrohugs can help to add a ray of sunshine into your life every day.

Your friend forever,
Ken
