About Me

Jon Berretta started his musical life at age 8 on viola. He grew up in the Three Village Central School District which still has an excellent music program. His passion for science led him into the environment science program at Plattsburgh State University upon which he discovered the mandolin. He practiced 8 hours a day for 10 months. After hearing Victor Wooten, he traded his mandolin for a bass guitar and began serious study of electric bass and eventually adding guitar. He then got serious with the guitar and was awarded a scholarship to study at University of Nevada, Las Vegas with Joe Lano(Lena Horne, L.A./Vegas Session Guitarist for the past 30 years) and taught at the University as well. During his early years of studying bass his friends at SUNY exposed him to high doses of John Coltrane and Duke Ellington and funk ofcourse. Jon thinks you should read, study and use the following books as references to improve your life and concepts of music.1.) Thinking in Jazz 2.) The Jazz Theory Book 3.)
