2005 was a good year and a bad year for hardcore and metal music. With the popularity this style of music has been enjoying, there have been both a handful of brilliant releases, and a glut of homogenized, hairspray-adorned trend-hoppers, bogging down the metalcore bandwagon with each accumulating breakdown. In Spring of '05, five guys got together with the intent... mostly to have fun... but also to bring whatever originality they could to an increasingly oversold genre. With a line up whose current and former projects range from Nodes Of Ranvier, Caligari and The Blinding Light to DJMonster! and The Madison Scouts, and an array of influences far too broad to list, the members of The Last Tyrant set out to break down whatever musical barriers they could, while still retaining the elements that brought them to hardcore and metal in the first place: intensity, sincerity, politically-charged, thought-inducing lyrics, a certain rawness, a sense of humor, and yeah, that general desire to break things.
Operating essentially as a part-time band for its first year, The Last Tyrant has already shared the stage with the likes of Terror, Full Blown Chaos, Bury Your Dead, Through The Eyes Of The Dead, Apiary, The Esoteric, August Burns Red, Ballast, The Red Death, Flee The Seen, Fight Like Hell and many more. TLT is currently in the process of mixing/mastering its untitled demo/EP, containing six songs that will ideally remind the listener that, while swinging fists is probably an appropriate reaction, so is 'thinking' -- maybe even smiling a little bit. With a newly-solidified lineup, and a strong desire to bring its music to anyone who'll listen, The Last Tyrant stands ready to turn a swarm of heads. Bring your cudgels, your brains and your grins. It should be fun.
