This Band Just Had To Happen! Conceived by a restless collective consciousness calling out for something new. The Break Down are here to make a joyful noise filled with passion and purpose. Their music is filled with expression, fusing elements of different styles from jazz to hip hop, soul, rock and pop that leads them to the edge of convention. The Heart - Jay Jones, a poet and life warrior that speaks from the truth of the soul.
The Arms - Rick Itzkovitch, Bassist, builds the foundation, keeping it loose and keeping it tight.
The Legs - Jay Sussman, Drummer, makes you step to the beat and brings you to your feet.
The Blood - Demetri Petsalakis, Lead Guitar, gives a steady charge of energy.
The Spirit- Alan Zemaitis, Keyboardist, explores melodic boundaries, soaring through our minds.
The Voice - Lilly Mason is the conscious sonic source drawing you in with her sincerity.Together The Break Down draws upon a unique blend of inspiration, combining positive and thought provoking lyrics, intense melodies and infectious grooves. Each band member contributes a distinctive element to the group's song-writing and stage show. This innovative ensemble is on a mission to entertain. Collectively, the group possesses an astonishing musical cohesion, seamlessly weaved with a freedom of improvisation that exemplifies the musicianship of each individual performer. This ability to spontaneously create music forms the foundation of the band’s distinctive freshness and variety. The band was recently declared winners of Film Jam 11 at historic El Mocambo in Toronto and have been selected to play The Toronto Independent Music Awards “ Best Live “ Showcase taking place in July 2009. Other notable performances Include C Theatre Works Fundraiser at The Blue Moon, Main Stage at The 32nd Annual Thornhill Village Festival, A Night Of Groove at The Cameron House, SunFunk 2008 at Clinton's in Toronto and A Night On The Tracks at Trane Studio. The Break Down has finished recording its self-titled debut album and will be having their CD Release Party at The Rivoli on July 2nd 2009. The band plans to complete production of its sophomore album this summer.
