Andrew Ellis and the Setting Sons

About Me

"I got my first guitar when I was 11... I was horrible. Then I went into my dad's tool box, took his pipe cutter and made my first slide. Truth is I was still awful. Twenty years later... I'm not so bad".Andrew Ellis' playing style is true Americana. Soulful lyrics that recall tough times and display all the real stuff the blues is about. No flash... No smoke and mirrors... True grit. Andrew Ellis

Sounds Like: Maumee’s garage blues maestro can wail and shred with the best of ‘em. His high-powered guitar-driven anthems give a nod to the Delta-Chicago tradition of the blues, while simultaneously rubbing a little grease into the joints a la Motor City-style gritty blues. Ellis’ booming, gruff voice is a solid match for his powerful guitar work and high energy style. This is the music of fixing cars, drinking whiskey, crumby women, crumby friends and the raw deal that the American underbelly can be. This is the sound Toledo makes clawing at the surface just to keep its head above water ... and it sounds awesome. Ryan Bunch - Toledo City Paper ColumnistAndrew Ellis and the boys put on a thick, tough, mean face that snarls the blues from its dark roots. But don't worry, it's not scary, just impressive. Ellis' raspy vocals meet the hiss and prowl of his biting guitar work in a way that calls to mind Howlin' Wolf, but with a mixture of harsh Delta roots and smooth Chicago polish. In short, keep your jug of whiskey close when these fellas are around.
