* In the tradition of Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, Bruce Tom Waits ... "I never seen anything like him" ... Kevin Kelly, on himselfYeah, that's me. The Great, Legendary Unknown. I play guitar & piano & sing my own songs. You won't forget me if you see me. I put it out there pretty good. I give it all up. Don't leave anything behind. Done a lotta work in the theatre, too, indy film, TV. Member of the Actors Studio. Entertainer/Performer/Shaman kinna thing I am. Played The East Village rock scene like CBGB's with my band The Hooligans which later became The Easties & turned into The Kevin Kelly Show Band. Did The Bleecker Street folk scene where it all started & out here I did the LA coffee house scene for awhile. Mostly, I'm a one-band but I always seem to pick up some funky cat along the way to accompany me. Kickin' up some some dust recently & knockin' 'em dead & buryin' 'em in my backyard here in Hollywood mostly at Pig 'n Whistle, Whiskey A GoGo, The Rainbow Room. Let's see I got anti-war song inspired by Cindy Sheehan on the radio (WBAI 99.5) in NYC & on an album called "United States of Conciousness" which I performed recently at The Whiskey A GoGo. Got a rock 'n roll album from The City called "Down In Tompkins Square Park" out on a limb & I'm about to release my own 15-song root-rock-folk-pop-punk-gospel-blues-poet offering called "Lost In The Cracks Of The Modern World". Both bodies of work got drum, conga, bongoes, bass, acoustic, electric guitar, piano, organ, mandolin, banjo, harmonica, horns, sax, trumpet, flute, backing vocals, gospel 3-part harmony & me howlin', cryin', shoutin' it out. An acoustic disc is in the works (working title based on a new song about the homeless called "Tent City") Promoter Rodrigo Salazar is having me do a South American tour after catchin' me at The Whiskey. Considering that. What else, I'm an Aries w/moon in Leo, rising Virgo, Mars & Venus in Aquarius. I'm single & I'd describe my life as the Prince Bum. I went down & I came back from the dead. I'm a poet & I can back it up. I'm a Ladies Man, a Man's Man, a Nowhere Man. See ya somewhere down the road ...

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: www.thekevinkellyshow.com
Band Members: Me & yeah, sometimes, whatever invisible men, fellow fools, drummer clowns, strummers, horn blowers, harp-suckers, troubadours, fair-maiden dancers, corner boys, highway robbers, rocker babes, bands of one or many who seem to come along always in the nick of time to accompany me for a while on my way to somewhere down the road ...
Influences: Woody Guthrie, Leadbelly, James Brown, Tom Waits, Warren Zevon, Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen, Bruce Springsteen, The Pogues, Creedence Clearweater, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, The Ramones, Sinead O'Conner, Steve Earle, Van Morrison, Marlon Brando, Popeye, The Sailorman, The Beatles, Elvis & of course, my mother, Boots, who from whence I came a-crawlin' ...
Sounds Like: The E-Street Band meets The Pogues meets a garage band from Poughkeepsie meets the lunatic on the corner howlin' under the full moon. It's straight-up stuff. It moves. Got melody in it, hooks, harmony. Throw in the kitchen sink, too. Big, American Last Supper. The lyric content is everything though. I'm a poet, a storyteller, a protest singer lookin' for a girl. What can I say? My voice is a cross 'tween Tom Waits, Bruce, Neil Diamond, Elvis kinna, Dylan-esque. I like where Patti Smith goes when she gives it up. I bang the guitar & the piano, I beat it up, I'm a chugger. I sing every song like it's my last. I've tryed to do it another kinna cooler way. I just can't feel it like that. Ain't me. Rock 'n roll or no rock 'n roll, I gotta get the hell outta this cave 'cause I believe there's some light out there shining on!
