The Shaxe

About Me

The Shaxe (pronounced "SHAKES") are a central jersey-based alt-southern rock-jam band which was formed in the fall of 1992 by guitarists Mike Liskowitz and Doug Drake, bassist/guitarist Dan Coffey, and drummer Brian Impellizeri. All had played professionally for years before finding a unique chemistry in this lineup.
Any low paying gigs at parties and clubs around the town would follow and eventually Sam Simmons and Tom Stange would join on percussion and sax, respectively. Throughout much of the years 1993-1996 the band would play anywhere they could, honing their style and borrowing much from the grass roots rock of jam bands like the Allmans and the Dead.
Since then, the band has played several hundred gigs in the tri-state area and have released two studio records; "Walkin' Out My Soul", (featuring Dave from Ween, Greg D and Chris Harford, among others--and "Lowdown Overload", a 3 CD Live set "Live at Northwoods", and are compiling material for a third studio record.
The band's music has been featured on WDRE Morristown, WXPN Philly, The Pipeline show Trenton NJ, as well as several other college stations including WXAC Reading and WPRB Princeton, where they've also performed on-air several times.

Just read his autobiography and it was one of the best I’ve read. A totally candid, self-deprecating account of the life of a true genius who certainly had his share of demons. A guy who was rai...
