Aleshia's Personal Video
Stillchyld funny stuff video and memories
Stillchyld was formed originally in October of 2007. They have changed members a few times, and have grown not only as a band, but also as a family. In the beginning, they were a bit unsure of themselves, but since March of 2008, they have cracked down on themselves hard and began to practice at least 4-5 times a week. They are hard workers, and they also work well with each other. The rhythm guitarist has changed twice. It was sad to see the others go,as bandmates are like family.
The Stillchyld name is one thats very personal to them, and they have copyrighted that name to themselves. The bands purpose is to come out there and show everyone that rock/metal does not always have to be negative, or about bloodlust or killing. Stillchyld means "A child that is dying inside emotionally does not have to let life continue that way, they just have to utilize their passions in life to their fullest." They are a very positive group, and have a tendency to draw crowds. This particular style of music is known for mostly male vocals, but with all the members' talents combined and throwing in a female vocalist that can sing and scream , (thats hot nonetheless ;-), really sends this group over the edge. No other band sounds like them. A pretty unique style comes forth from Stillchyld. They have quite a few different influences of music styles. Each band member has grown up with and listened to different types of music.
Aleshia Handy, vocalist and pianist, is a 30 year old mother of 5 young boys 7 and under. She somehow still manages to throw her all into her music. The lyrics are very personal and really grab your attention. Aleshia has been playing the piano since the age of 4, and has never before been involved with singing, which in fact started out as karaoking at local clubs about 2 years ago. Then, over the spring of 2008, she really started practicing hard and bettering herself through song and lyric. She continues to work hard on improving.
Mike Brown is quite a talented guitarist at the age of 19, and has been a fan of classic rock and heavy metal...he also likes classical piano music. Progressive seems to be a big part of his flavor now. Michael is also quite the Megadeath fan, along with old school Metallica. It definitely shows through his playing style. Mike also likes Dream Theater and is constantly practicing music by them. He writes some of the most beautiful acoustic ballads, that sometimes break into epic choruses with distortion...he practices hard on a daily basis. Michael also likes Rascal Flatts,Bryan Adams, and Journey...just for the record.
David Mosell,22, tends to be into the modern metal, stuff that is melodic, such as Bodom and In Flames. He is a more recent fan of Straight Line Stitch, and Aleshia would have to agree that SLS is definitely one hell of a band. David also the father to baby Gabrial Mosell that he and Aleshia have together. He is a great father, excellent guitar player, and takes the band very seriously. He is always sitting down somewhere playing his guitar...great soloist.
Newest member Josh Luckritz seems to be fitting very well with the band. He has been working extremely hard on learning the old Stillchyld music, and helping them create new as well. Josh plays both guitar and drums, but he is now the drummer in this group, and Stillchyld loves his style. Josh is a pretty big fan of Mastodon, also for the record.
Stillchyld is very excited to share with you the joys and frustrations of being in a band together. Being in a band is not all about perfection. It is about trials and tribulations and ups and downs. Fans are not only fans-they are friends and the complete foundation of our existence...
Stillchyld has played at The Rave/Eagles Ballroom in Milwaukee,WI on a side stage for As I Lay Dying. They also won battle of the bands in June 2008, hosted by Castle Rock productions and Dirty Empire Promotions. Stillchyld also put on Hellfest 2008 in Clinton and managed to draw 200 people...for the Domestic Violence Crisis Center at the YWCA, and is planning on doing more charity events. More recently they played at the House of Bricks in Des Moines---DES MOINES ROCKS! We loved the little shops that featured artwork done by the owners themselves, and the beautiful antique shop across from the House of Bricks....great place to just hang out for a weekend!
Tri-County Metal Fest was actually where Stillchyld got their first real recognition. That was held in the Peoria area the summer of 2008. There was a couple or a few hundred people there, and they played with Hurtlocker and Lividity, See Thru Silence, Raising Cain, amongst other great bands as well.
. For awhile the neighbors called the police due to excessive noise,(lol), but soon realized that they take their music seriously, and were NOT "just another basement/garage band"......so they allow them to practice whenever they want, most of the time!
They have roughly 15 to 20 shows under their belt, and are booking more. They are entered in the contest through Famecast at www.battleofthebands.com (although there was a screw-up in the signing up process so their name is spelled wrong on the site like Stillchylde (Stillchylde is incorrect...., it is Stillchyld. So far they are in the top ten for Milwaukee, and the top 20 for Chicago. They are hoping to win a spot on the Vans Warped Tour....
With new songs such as "Stillchyld Unbroken", "In Memory Of...", "Not Enough", and "Lead Me"....they begin this year playing at Podunks Palace in Goose Lake, along with Johnny Scum and The Afterdarks on April 18th, hope to see you there!
They will be taking a mini-tour this summer around the area playing at the House of Bricks, the Picador, and Bridgestreet.
