Being an engineer and sitting down in a lot of sessions I have seen many DJ's come and go. I've seen what those Dj's were doing and how they used turntables.i grew an interest in the DJ aspect of things so I wanted to know more about DJ'ing and turntablism so eventually I sparked up a conversation with one of the DJ's and learned that DJ'ing ain't as easy as it looks, because you always have to know what to play and when to play, having to feed off the crowd as well as getting them hype at the same time. It takes more to DJ then just playing songs continuously. Its more of beat matching, knowing what type of crowd your playing for and playing the right things as well as mixing the songs together to get a nice transition from one song to the next making It sound clean and also carrying music of mostly all the genres. That for every single out at the time you would have 1 vinyl, so me thinking I asked “so wait you have to carry hundreds of vinyls then is that correct†and he replied yes. So that made me say damn thats crazy for every party or every time a person goes to Dj they have to carry crates of music and not just one crate, many crates. He also informed that there is much needed practice and time to be put in because crowds aren't always nice, they can easily go from dancing to a hot song but if u make a mistake or something doesn't sound good or u mess up they will not hesitate to “Boo†your ass. As time went on I lost contact with that DJ so I just forgot bout Dj'ing for a while a stuck to engineering, because there was still a lot of things to know about engineering and there wasn't any other Dj I knew at the time to learn from. In 2007 I met this DJ called DJ Mode from NYC. I began a to talk to him and he seemed cool and I guess he thought I seem like a cool person because if he didn't I don't think he would've kept in contact with me. So yea we talked a lot about music and how I was an engineer and stuff like that. I really cant remember everything we talked about but yea I guess u can say that was the start of a friendship lol. But ever since then me n him have always been good friends and eventually I began to work with him on the music side of things whether its been helping him out with engineering or w/e it was. I been working with DJ Mode for about 2 years or so and thats like basically a brother from another mother. Anything I need help with he's there and what ever he needs help with I am there.
So one day I was like yo son teach me to DJ and he was like iight no doubt son but lemme tell u this “it aint easy and your gotta work hard†and I was iight I cont care how hard it is (no homo). But yea ever since then ive learned a lot from him of course I nowhere near being the best but im getting there with the help of DJ Mode. So yeah I guess thats how I started Dj'ing.
