About Me

Layout Created at KillerKiwi.net
Just when you thought you understood modern music: enter the Mason Storm Files, a hybrid mix tape that mixes a massive cast of unlikely elements into a radioactive sequence of musical equations. Hosted by Pledge, turn-tablist and beat master for the Seattle fusion rock band Mountain Con, the program features the compositions of American songwriting legends like Bob Dylan , Woody Guthrie and even Cole Porter. Behind this classic backdrop Pledge mixes in beats from hip hop titans such as the Roots, Common, Outkast, Latyrx, Ghostface and Pete Rock. If that wasn't enough, Pledge brings in Mountain Con songwriter James Nugent (aka Lo-Fi Freak) to thrown down folk lyrics. On top of this, Seattle MC Tulsi threw down rhymes on many of the tracks while recording his debut album at Mountain Con's warehouse studio. INXS and the Portland psychedelic rock band Helio Sequence also find their way into the mix.The result of this urban high mathematics is a mix tape that posses serious questions about the strength of the walls that separate many of today's musical genres. Is it folk music with beats? Is it hip hop laced with Dylan style talking blues? The only thing certain in this brave and risky new musical universe is that it makes for good listening. And it leaves us with the million dollar question: is rock, hip hop, blues and folk all really the same thing?
