1993- In October, Nelson Canário (vocals), Luis Goulão (guitar), Nelson Ricardo (guitar), VÃtor Coelho (bass) and Carlos Canário (drums), formed Rebellion. Inspired in bands like Blind Guardian, Iron Maiden, Helloween, Metallica and Slayer, the band from Seixal (20 km south of Lisbon), composed their first themes. 1994- They play their first gigs. 1995- In August, it’s recorded their first demo called “Shadowâ€, obtaining excellent reactions from the musical press, being considered the best of the year by the readers of the journal “A Capital†(Portugal wide published). 1996- With clear ideas, and the objective to increase their already notorious melodic vein, José Figueiredo joins the band, and starts working behind the keyboards. In the end of the year, they start recording their first album “Phoenix†1997- “Phoenix†sees the light of day. The album faces the market throughout author’s edition. 1998- The band faces a temporary set back, caused by the abandon of their guitar player Luis Goulão and the man behind the keyboards José Figueiredo, being now temporarily reduced to a quartet. 1999- In May, João Loureiro joins the band to play guitar, making his debut in a concert at “Festa do Avante†in September. 2000- This is a year full of live shows, standing out their performances at Steel Warriors Rebellion Attack III (Barroselas), and at Mangualde Metal fest 2000. 2001- Nelson Ricardo (guitar) decided to abandon the band. Nevertheless, Rebellion went into studio, and recorded in Rec´n´Roll, the theme, “The Great Dragonâ€, soon to be integrated in the Tribute album, to the legendary Portuguese metal band Tarantula, “20 Anos de Tarantula†(“20 years of Tarantulaâ€). In this same year, they come back to Valadares, home of Rec´n´Roll Studios, to record seven new songs, that in the future would than is a part of their second album. 2002- The keyboard player João Fernandes joins the band. In October it’s edited “Ascendingâ€, again produced by the band, but this time distribute by Recital Records and promote by Utopia Productions. 2003- They continue to promote the “Ascending†CD with concerts in Portugal and sharing stages with Portuguese bands like Oratory, Squad, Genocide, Tarantula, Angriff, Casablanca, Attick Demons, Black Widows, Drakkar and many others. New songs started to appear with the though on the new album to be release somewhere in 2004. In the end of 2003 the band started to promote the CD beyond frontiers. 2004 – 11 years of Rebellion a year of joy and sadness, the band get their best reviews ever, but at the end of the same year the vocals Nelson Canário leaves the band, problems to find a voice with the same range marks the end of 11 year of heavy metal played with the heart.
