A Brief History of The Prescription (from what I can remember!):
Formed at the beginning of 1982. Played at a few club nights we ran at various venues, mostly people's flats - for which their neighbours must have been eternally grateful! - then recorded first couple of demos.
Linked up with bands like The Green Telecope, BTOC, The Rubber Dolfinarium and so on for many gigs at places like The Waterloo Bar, Calais Palais, Moray House and La Sorbonne. Suppose people who were around at the time will most remember 'The Wipe Out' at 'Bobby McGee's', which featured all of the above, in 1984. Later, decided to change the line-up a bit and added Lee, but played our last gig at the end of '84 at a community centre in Pilton. Last gig because all the gear got trashed in a riot! The only Prescription stuff commercially available is a version of 'Selsey Green' from the November, 1982 session below which is on Beatsville's 'Gardyloo!' compilation of old Edinburgh bands.
Tracks here are: 'Oranges And Lemons', recorded May, 1982 at the 'Fun Factory', Greyfriars Market, Edinburgh and produced by two geezers in rasta hats whose names are lost in the mists of time; 'Fire Engine' and 'I Can't Work It Out Myself', recorded November, 1982 at the same; 'Selsey Green', recorded December, 1983 at Pier House Studios, Edinburgh and produced by Peter Haig. The last two tracks were 're-mastered' by Dave Arcari of Radiotones fame around 1990 after original tape was lost (it has now been found). Other stuff by the D-Centres (successors to The Prescription) and Mike Delaney may be added occasionally, into the latter category of which falls 'Baxter's Blues', recorded 1994.
If anyone has any stray Prescription recordings out there - particularly live stuff - it would be great to hear from you.
Check out the 'friends' for some music, well-known and less celebrated, that would be well worthy of your attention.
