About Me

Global Eyesight's album Fight The Night is a solo project by Ross Barkstrom (in collaboration with some other musicians). Probably the best quote to describe the album is 'soothing with a dark edge'. Fight the Night is a concept album that starts off pretty dark and gradually becomes happier in tone as it progresses. Listening to the full album is an experience. The concept of the album is dealing with the uncertainties of the future ('The Beginning', 'Fading Away'), not dwelling on the past ('No Longer','I Killed Pt. 1'), letting go of what others think about you ('Stares'), and eventually finding yourself in the world ('Free With Certainty','Reborn'). Strong melodies and insightful lyrics are the backbone of Fight the Night. There is a great deal of variety on Fight The Night. Some songs have progressive arrangements (in multiple sections) and others more pop. Some songs are heavily distorted, some spacy and others are acoustic. There are also some instrumental/prog rock songs ('Full of Empty Airlessness', 'Remain', 'I Killed Pt. 2', 'Where the Hell Have You Been?') that add significantly to the album. The final track 'Can You Feel?' is a prog rock song that was difficult to find a space for within the album and is actually more of a bonus track. There are many influences on the album that reflect Ross Barkstrom's own musical interests. Starting off as a self taught metal guitar player, he eventually studied classical guitar and merged the two into a very melodic style. Pink Floyd, Smashing Pumpkins, Rush and Metallica can all be credited with influencing Global Eyesight heavily as well as classical music. The name Global Eyesight comes from a tattoo that Ross has on his arm.
