My name is Mårten Jansson and I work as a choir conductor. I also teach voice lessons and music harmony in Uppsala, the city where I live and was born in 1965.As for my music I can only say that I never tried to be original. My first aim has always been to try to write “my” music the way I want it how traditional it ever may sound.To my “career highlights” I count three things:– A quote from Mr Anders Eby, professor of choir conducting at the Royal Academy of Music Stockholm, which made me very happy. He said, after listening to my choir Carmen’s first record, “This is spiritual music”. “Spiritual music” translated into Swedish means literally the same thing in English, but also that the music in it self has a spirit.– A quote from Mr Peters Vasks, Latvian composer, who called me a young colleague after a concert in Riga -98, where he and I had our music performed. I told him that I wasn’t really qualified to be called a colleague, but he fatherly answered in German: “Aber doch” which means – “but still”.– Every composer wants his music to mean something to other people. The one episode I often think about is when my friend’s grandmother chose to pass away while listening to my choir Carmen’s first record. She liked it so much that she had her CD-player on repeat the last two weeks of her life.As for now, I am looking forward to hearing my Mass “Missa De Profundis” broadcasted on the Swedish Radio sometime early in 2008. The program “P2 Live” recorded a concert in the Härnösand Cathedral with Karolina Sivert as soloist, my choir Carmen, the vocalensemble “Les Jolies”, the string quartet “Forza kvartetten”, Nina Sandell as organist and me conducting. In the same concert we also performed “Heliga Danser” by my friend Fredrik Sixten and also his string quartet “Chaconne”.Next year I will release my composers portrait on CD. It will be called “Vox Feminea Sacra” – Sacred music for female voices and will contain some of my music for ladies choir performed by some of the very best ensembles from all the Nordic countries.Thanks for taking the time to read this, please don’t hesitate to contact me.Take care and have fun!Mårten
