Raised 45 mins outside of NYC, the son of Tiny Tims drummer, Phunkae spent his childhood listening to every type of music known to man, from classical to country, grunge to gospel. Learning to play drums before he could walk and shortly after picking up guitar piano and bass and setting the stage for his musical endeavors. He joined a very well known ska band as the bassist in the early 90's but as the electronic music scene developed he was entranced by the thumping fresh music. Listening to groups like The Orb, Ozeric Tentacles, Plasticman, and D-Lite Phunkaes heart began to long to create this new style of music. In 1997 after Djing all over the North East Phunkae set out to Orlando Florida break beat capital of the world and the home of Full Sail Center for the Recording Arts. After graduating and rockin beats all over florida he moved back to NYC and began working at the world famous Hit Factory Recording Studios and at the same time forming Funk Dawg Records. Funk Dawg did well and had releases charted by Icey, Dj Spice, and Scott Hardkiss to name a few. In 2001 as our country witnessed the infamous terror attacks on NYC and the Pentagon Phunkae began attending a new gathering called Sanctuary, a collaboration of music and faith just out side of Manhattan at www.brcc.org Black Rock Congregational Church. Realizing that there is more to life than mere existence, that he was saved by the grace of Jesus Christ who died for all sinners, and that whoever believed would have eternal life he gave his life to Christ. In 2002 he married his wife Rebecca and they had 2 children Joshua Ryan and Clara Grace. At this time he put the music on the back burner to focus on his new family. In 2005 as his life began to settle down a bit he decided to again focus on the music. Teaming up with his long time friend Drew Down they formed Funkhouser. Over the last three years Funkhouser gained notable popularity, spreading the sounds of dirty electro bass to a thumping house beat throughout New England and New York. Now releasing tracks under Funkhouser (Electro House) and Chunk N Attack (Breaks) Phunkae and Drew Down are once again tearin up dance floors with the funk. 2008 looks to be a prosperous year for these two with releases on several labels getting ready to drop.
