"2/3's JunG" are an acoustic rock band from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They have been together for 3 years now. The band consists of principle songwriter Tim James Young (guitar/vocals) and Chris Gauthier (drums) **2/3's JunG are currently seeking a bass player** 2/3's JunG (pronounced "two thirds YunG") play an acoustic/rock type music. at this time 2/3's JunG (previously known as "JunG") will be calling them selves 2/3's JunG until they find a new bass player. if they do not find a bass player (or some other player or players), then they will remain 2/3's JunG.2/3's JunG sound is hard to describe other than it's not all that derivative and more the sound of a singer, an acoustic guitar and a full drum kit trying not to sound country (maybe a little bit folky) while sticking with an acoustic guitar as the main musical instrument to carry the tunes and they like to rock out like an electric/alternative/indie band. some have said Tim sounds a bit like Cat Stevens but Cat Stevens (a.k.a. Yusif Islam) never grew up with punk rock, 80's/90's alternative music or any of the weird combinations that have since happened with the all the bands that have grown up with all these different styles to draw from. besides, Tim never really listened to Cat Stevens until someone told him he sounded like Cat Stevens.to describe 2/3's JunG by what bands they sound like, would not be fair. let's just say Tim is not trying to sound like anybody, Chris just loves to play drums/music and they create a original sound with what they have. it would be better to describe Tim's influences, as they pertain to his song writing, these would be: The Smiths, U2, The Cure, Sonic Youth, Nick Cave, The Stone Roses, Big Star, The Grapes Of Wrath, Crowded House, Talking Heads, the Clash, David Bowie, Sun Kil Moon, Cocteau Twins, Neil Young, The Replacements, even Skinny Puppy, Ministry and (old/fast/cool) Metallica. Chris sticks with what he's familiar with (rock, country, popular music) but Tim never stops listening to new bands/styles and trying to influence Chris at the same time.Tim is less likely to play rock power chords but instead hit all the strings to get a punk/alternative sound and/or the energy that an electric guitar can put forth without using tons of effects pedals (he does use some). he gives no explanation for his choice of instrument other than pointing out the fact that nothing sounds new to him on the electric guitar and he can "hit" the acoustic harder. Chris's drumming style is mostly rock with dashes of motown, funk and jazz thrown in for flavor but Chris is a rock drummer first and any other styles he tries tend to be put through his rock n' roll filter. as much as Tim would welcome worldly kinds of percussion with some of the songs he and Chris seem to make the rock drum sound work for them, for now. who knows what the future might hold with added members and such.stay tuned for more bio info..... -- HTML Codes by Quackit.com --
