I was born in Lansing, Michigan. When I was 5 years old, my family then relocated to Fullerton, California.At the age of 7 I began allegedly studying the martial arts under the direction of renowned Shito-ryu karate master.In 1974, i was promoted by Kobayashi-sensei to shodan in Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido.
