About Me

Hello, I'm Rinksman. I grew up in El Cajon, CA, near San Diego. Both of my grandparents on my mom's side of the family were excellent musicians, exposing me to many musical instruments and styles of music at a young age. My parents had me take classical piano lessons between the age of 8 and 14. I was a fairly decent pianist for my age, but at the time did not enjoy or appreciate playing classical music. I wanted to "Rock" and that meant learning to play the electric guitar! Unfortunately, I was initially forbidden to have an electric guitar. So, in 1981, as a freshman in high school, I bought my first guitar and amp without my parents permission using money I had earned from an after-school custodial job. I hid my forbidden axe under my brother's bed and would jam along to the sounds of Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, AC/DC and the Scorpions whenever my folks took the dog for a walk or had to work at night. I soon grew tired of abbreviated, clandestine jam sessions by myself and sold my first guitar later that same year (1981). A year later, in an act of loving irony, my Mom took me to Guitar Center and bought me a brand new Gibson Silverburst 335S Deluxe Solid Body guitar and a Roland 10 watt amp for my 16th birthday. The year was 1982 and I was the happiest kid on the Planet!
After 25 years, several bands and untold amounts of of fun, I'm still jamming with friends and in my home studio whenever possible. A trip to the hospital for an MCI in early 2007 made me stare my own mortality straight in the face. Aside from the obvious concerns for family and self-preservation, I also realized that I had a brain full of unfinished songs and lyrics that needed to be recorded for time immemorial. Over the past year I have spent many hours producing these original songs, inspired by a combination of old memories, current events and everything in between that life has to offer. Though frustrating at times, the entire recording process has been incredibly therapeutic and I am proud enough of the results that I've posted them here in Cyber Space for all to enjoy. Thanks to all of you who take the time to listen to my music and add me to your friends lists. I do appreciate it and will reciprocate in kind.
Yours truly,
Rinksman
