Punching Nicholas formed in April of 2007 in Memphis with a searing vengeance built on the founding blocks of intestinal fortitude and blazing rock chops. The Line up is Chip Atkinson (Vocals and guitar), Chip Googe (Vocals and guitar), Carson Lamm (Bass) and Sal Djembe (drums and percussion). The sound is Original Memphis Indie Rock and has been described as:“I can’t pinpoint it”, “Not AC/DC” , “It’s Like XTC without the X”, “Sounds like Brit-rock meets Memphis”, "Holy shit that is some Pop Rock goodness", "The drummer, the drinker, the day trader and the donk" and “A Good Ole’ Beer Drinkin’ Bar Band” .Our brief bio starts with Chip Atkinson (vocals and guitar). Chip worked on the Los Angeles Project “SQWRL” with the legendary B. Carlson in the famed Brian Wilson studio. His EP has seen widespread West Coast college radio airplay and has been shopped to many a label, and was picked up recently for some TV and Movie soundtracks featuring but not limited to the One Day at Time Reunion Special on Lifetime "Schneider: Mechanic or Meth Addict?" and the everpoplular "Sound track to Sister Act II" .Chip Googe (guitar and vocals) served as an axeman extraordinaire for the local indie rockers “Crash into June” , "A Working Class", "X Radio" and the legendary “40 Watt Moon”. Chip’s lead guitar work cemented him into the guitar slinger’s hall of fame on the Summer Avenue Red Light District.Carson Lamm (bass guitar) began his stage life as a drummer for a cast of Bands in Birmingham, Alabama during the grunge rock explosion in the early and mid nineties. Some of his bands got some national I’m-bored-with-Seattle exposure included the likes of Volume, Little Red Rocket, Bleeding Hearts Choir, Volume, Fuzzy Sons, Happy Camper, Grady Vision, The Yellowhammers, Davey Williams Trio, Mauldin Youth, The Mustache Sisters, The Orchids, and Sneaky Little Bastards". All of which skirted all notorious stature and faded to oblivion except for couple but that's another story.Native Californian Sal Djembe (drums and percussion) joined the band with the intensity and fortitude to solidify the rhythm section. He decided early on to; 1. Ignite the blazing guitar rock chops with ass kicking drum beats, 2. Propel Punching Nicholas into the upper stratosphere of Indie Pop Rock with a rock solid rhythm with a intensity not seen since the Sex Pistols invaded American in January of 1978. His drumming has been known to stagger the faint of heart and inspire hundreds to remove their undergarments while flailing about the dance floor.Punching Nicholas plays all original music that seems to blend the experience of the players and meld their favorite bands including/ but not sounding like: XTC, Da Da, The Pixies, Jon Spencer, British Rock (pick one), Sonic Youth, Radio Head, and most Radio friendly mellow rock.
