EVOLUTIA
Stephen Cameron met Mitch Holmes in the early fall of 2008. With the early invitation of Cameron’s friend Aaron Davis to bass, Evolutia was formed. Cameron pitched his acute blend of heavy classic guitar, classical piano, and agile vocals while Davis, influenced by hard rock and metal, could range the neck of his 6-string bass effortlessly. Holmes, having been in the hardcore band Awaiting the End, for 4 years, became the quick driving force behind Evolutia and a source of spontaneity in intricate genre-crossing grooves. Evolutia’s talents would overflow onto After All These Years, the band’s first 4 song EP, released in November of 2008. AATY was recorded after several months of writing and practicing as these friends met, blended genres, and created art (see blog for more details on AATY)
About this time, Aaron Davis decided to leave the band to pursue other interests, but Holmes and Cameron pressed on, quickly beginning construction on their own sound-proof recording studio, now dubbed, “The Denâ€. Holmes and Cameron retreated to The Den often to write, practice, and engage in season-long Aqua Teen Hunger Force marathons. After recording began on another Evolutia EP, a two month long search for a bass player came to an end as Cameron summoned Andrew Barnhart from hibernation to take up his 5-string bass and make this duo a trio once again. Barnhart would bring Evolutia to another level musically and his widely varying tastes complimented those of Holmes and Cameron’s with inspirations such as Radiohead, The Mars Volta, and Say Anything. Barnhart’s previous band, No Avail, stuck to an implicit pop rock sound but Barnhart now looked to break any of these imaginary boundaries to see where endless creativity could bring him. “If I’m going to be in a band, I’m going to be in the best freakin’ band there is,†remarks Barnhart, after hours of rewriting with Cameron and Holmes on the next Evolutia EP, expected to arrive in the Summer of 2009. This EP will be the first in a series of three, the second of which is AATY and the third is yet to be announced (see blog for more details on the EP series). “It’s going to be the most musically diverse tracks we have arranged yet; unique, fun, and probably the heaviest songs ever heard on piano,†expresses Cameron. “We are spending a garbage load of time writing these songs…it’s going to sound amazing and we are all stoked about it,†exclaims Holmes, “I like to think of us not as just a drummer, bassist, and pianist in a band together, but rather three young talented musicians, combining our experience, to make music that reflects who we are.†Thank you for listening.
