THEN & NOW
The early 80's..
After finishing a respectable 3rd the NSW Final of the 2SM Hoadleys Battle of The Bands, the band soon caught the eye of local promoters, managers, producers and record companies.
Embarking on their quest to pop stardom, the band concentrated on building up a solid fan base playing the thriving local pub scene as well as picking up tour supports with established major Australian pub rock acts such as Cold Chisel, The Angels, Mental As Anything, The Church, The Divinyls, The Sunnyboys.
Attracting interest from both independent and major labels, the band soon signed to Deluxe Records (a new label formed by Michael Browning former manager of Billy Thorpe, AC-DC, and later to guide Noiseworks to fame) and with label mates including INXS, The Numbers, Heaven and The Dugites, they released their first single "This Is Love" b/w "Little By Little" in 1981 produced by Jim Manzie ( creative force behind Ol'55 and later to work as producer for Choirboys, The Breakers, The Innocents).
Further touring, recording and the odd television appearance followed, but external forces saw the band self destruct without any further single/album releases and before realising their true potential as one of Australias finest powerpop bands.
Following The Affections premature breakup:Rob Smith has since been in various lineups of The Innocents and Ted Mulry Band as well as recording solo material.Wayne Hammonds went on to join Sydney YoungHearts.Rob Risio and Brad Robinson after forays with various innercity Sydney new wave bands worked together again in late 80's cult innercity band The Vladivostoks.
A compilation CD of The Affections' unreleased recordings and demos is in the works and with the original members reuniting in 2007 after over 15 years apart and with growing interest from powerpop aficionados in the US and Europe, plans are afoot to record/release new material and tour in the near future.
