WDEN Book Club

About Me

We aren't professional reviewers. We don't get paid to read books and write columns. We are just two women who love to read and happen to work at a radio station that allows us to talk about our passion for books and those talented men and women who write them. So we may not be eloquent and our grammar and punctuation may not be perfect (after all, we don't have an editor) but we know what we like. Remember, we want to hear your reviews too so let us know when you read a great book! MyGen Profile GeneratorThis page is being hosted by WDEN's Laura Starling and Gail Daniels. We share a love of great music and great books. Keep an eye on this page. We'll feature new books, old books and books we can't live without. We'll notify you when we are going to give books away or have author interviews on the air. Plus, we'd like to know what you're reading! ABOUT LAURA STARLING: In high school and college, I did some writing for local papers and magazines and thought I might one day grow up to be a famous author. While attending Wesleyan College (where I graduated with a degree in English) I began working at WDEN doing the 7pm-12midnight show. I studied Shakespeare and Chaucer by day, played Willie and Waylon by night and ended up with a career I love and a hobby I spend way too much money on. There's not much that beats a day at the beach with a good book. P.S. Thanks to my friend Lu Peacock at Macon Magazine who reads more than I do and always shares her books. On her recommendation, I have been introduced to many great authors, including James Grippando, and some of the best beaches in Florida. ABOUT GAIL DANIELS: When I was in the fourth grade my teacher, the beautiful Mrs. Patello , started reading to us every morning. She may have read several different books to us but the one that I remember to this day is “Wind in the Willows” by Kenneth Grahame. I was mesmerized from the very beginning and I couldn’t wait to go to school every day to see what would happen next to Toad, Mole, Ratty and Badger. Mrs. P instilled a life long love of reading in me and today I am often reading two books at the same time, one on the nightstand and one that I carry in my bag. I started saving all my money to order books from the Scholastic Book Club. I drove my mother crazy begging for dollars to purchase all the books I had ordered. We started going to the library once a week so I could save my mother her dollars, yet satisfy my addiction for reading! Today I get many of my paperbacks from www.booksfree.com but nothing beats a brand new hard cover book. I love the sound of the spine crinkling when you open the book for the first time; the crisp white pages filled with words that you hope will amaze, thrill, mystify, scare, educate and entertain you. Just think, it wasn’t too long ago those pages were blank and then somebody, a man or a woman with only a dream and an idea, put pen to paper and all those letters became words that became a story that ended up in the hands of a reader.Gail says: One of my favorite Authors is Ted Dekker. His new book is called "Adam" and will be out soon. Check out this preview.
