Lindsey Harper embodies what it means to be soulful. The sultry 23-year old has already gained international acclaim with an honest heart and a depth of lyrics that far exceed her years. Music has been a part of Lindsey’s life since the beginning. “As I child I was always dressed in costume,” explains Lindsey. Lindsey would use family get-togethers and dinner parties as an opportunity to put on a show. The family living room was the stage and the audience was hers to captivate. “Everyone loved it and I got a lot of attention from it, but to me it was completely normal.” The desire to be expressive and entertain followed Lindsey into her teen years, as she starred in a number of professional quality high school musicals and plays. Like many artists, life was not always easy for Lindsey once she got past the living-room stage and into the real world of an aspiring artist, but it is in these experiences that Lindsey has created the sound and feel of her music. This singer/songwriter draws on her life experiences as the guiding light for her song writing. Rather than dwell ..xperiences, Lindsey’s music is the experience itself. Lindsey had dyslexia as a child, and the areas of reading and writing have never been her strong suits. Lindsey’s music is the result of these challenges and what can be accomplished when one is truly passionate and inspired to accomplish their dreams. “It serves as the possibility for others that anything is possible when fear and doubts are put aside.” In order to be a songwriter, Lindsey had to really stare this challenge in the face and then just push past it. In the song “I am Beautiful,” Lindsey opens her heart and gracefully bouts out the lyrics that show her transition of coming into womanhood and how the world can make one feel so small at times. “The song serves as an inspiration to young women and lets them know that they truly are beautiful no matter what,” said Lindsey. The honesty and emotion that Harper bestows upon her audience can’t be ignored. In the song “The Awakening,” Lindsey becomes aware of her own consciousness and shows how she hopes to elevate the world consciousness. Harper brings forth a call-to action for listeners with the line, ”if it’s not your fault then you’re not sitting in this room,” “I really want to use my music to transform the world, and create the possibility of peace in the world.” Harper’s honest and transformational form of music have gained her notoriety in both the local and international music scene and has even landed her the theme-song in the independent film ”Loving Annabelle,” as well as a strong following on her my space artist page.
