Tina and the Come Get Some Ham's

Formed out of bitterness and a mutual contempt for the BotB, that organisational abomination that can only be described as Why?, Tina and The Come Get Some Hams are a quartet of such musical extravagance they make Ben Lumis look like a music industry tool. In just 5 short weeks, the band evolved from a harmless single-celled foolish notion to an arse kicking, nuclear-bomb dropping, dont-touch-my-ideals-screaming, multi-celled Musical Beast! Their first, only and possibly last, gig at the Kings Arms Tavern (August 10th, 2005) brought down the house. Playing to a packed-out room, with audience members numbering in the tens, T & TCGSH were better received than a free sample of Inghams latest chicken creation. Whether it was the multi-skilled Keuger and his bongos, the multi-toned Martin and his guitar, the multi-tasking McFarlane and his drums/bass or the multi-coloured Hill and his shirt, there was something for everyone. The band was so well received, in fact, that the judges were too busy acknowledging that the entire room thought they were amazing, and just plain forgot to judge them. Congratulations to the other bands on the night, however. Their forgettable, middle-of-the-road brand of musical bog is exactly what New Zealands music scene needs to fill the cracks made by government radio quotas. So if you ever get a chance to view the DVD of this landmark performance, which is fast becoming, well, available, do. It will amuse your friends, bemuse your parents and possibly abuse your cat.
