Back in 1990 while living in Mexico(when the whole death metal/grindcore era was happening)I had the idea to do a fanzine[EPITAPH was the name],since nobody in my area ever did a fanzine.I wrote to some bands and got some interviews with bands like RIPPING FLESH,CENOTAPH,BLOODSOAKED,ATTOXXXICO,some
reviews and articles. Unfortunately, I was unable to continue with the project for whatever reason,then I gave the info to other fanzines.At that time I was friends with PATTY and NANCY VILLANUEVA editors of SUCCUBUS 'zine,they invited me to be part of SUCCUBUS as co-editor,I accepted the offer. I got to be honest,back then,I did not know how to handle how to be a co-editor,perhaps because I was too young,no money,whatever the reason.So,I was not doing much helping with the fanzine, I know PATTY and NANCY were very disappointed ,because they were very dedicated and worked so hard doing SUCCUBUS 'zine.I wish can go back in time and change things. Anyway, I was with them until SUCCUBUS#2,then after that we lost contact and I have not seen them or talked to them since then. I moved to the USA in 1994 and I was not involved in any projects for a while. To be honest with all of you ,I think the best fanzines came out around the late 80's,early 90's,after 1994 until probably early 2000,most of fanzines I've seen sucked [except SLOTH'zine and a couple others],it was not the same anymore,I don't know why. A few years back I started to see good fanzines coming from all over the world. Last year(2007) I decided to do REBORN FROM ASHES'ZINE,basically because I haven't seen any metal fanzine here locally(Yeah! sad but true,there is no REAL UNDERGROUND escene in EVANSVILLE,IN.U.S.A,just bands who play at bars locally and they think they made it),but I learned that local metalheads don't care about fanzines,not much support here locally,but it's ok. REBORN FROM ASHES is getting response from different places around the world. I know there are metalheads out there who like and support fanzines,you guys give me motivation to continue and this is for all of you.
