About Me
Lord knows, I'm happiest when I'm playing bass, been playing since 1972. I am currently in four bands, The Hambones, The Leeways, The Rockerbillys and Big Bob's Texas Blues Cruise. But I still have plenty of time to do sub work.
I had an amazing time this year (08) playing the Oak Point Bowl Full of Blues, The House of Blues, The Frog Bluesfest and the Opening Day Parade for The State Fair of Texas. I really enjoy hosting Big Head's Band Showcase where I feature numerous bands from around town, I have met a lot of great muscicians and made some wonderful friends in the process.
I have also been blessed to play with numerous different bands including The Silvertones, The Andrea Dawson Band, Leo Hull, Three Time Fool, Jim Hunton and The T-Bonz and The Skeeter Brothers to name a few. I have also been fortunate enough to share the stage with Hash Brown, Texas Slim, Paul Byrd, Andrew Jr Boy Jones, Brent Rozelle, Jackie Don Loe, Mr. 18 Karat, Rob Donavan, Sam Meyers, Joe Jonas, Jimmy "preacher" Ellis, Pat Lancaster, Chuck Popcorn Louden, Steve Hill, Kenny Strauther, David Holcombe, D.B. Denney, YoYo Collins, Jimmy Morgan, Randy Ball, Kevin Edwards, Cheryl Arena and countless others. I am truly grateful for all of these players for whom without none of this would be possible.
When I was ten years old, I started my first band with Texas Slim, our band was called Brainstorm; nothing but originals as it didn't occur to us to play cover songs. Later, I attended Booker T Washington School for the Performing Arts from 1978-80 learning new bass skills that I use to this very day. In 2004, I picked up a RotoSound endorsement. A couple of my earlier bands were White Lightning and Nuthin Fancy. Writing has also been a new kick for me, having had some of my music reviews published in Southwest Blues Magazine and Harderbeat.
If you need a bass player who also sings and knows how to have fun but stays in the pocket, be sure to contact me, I'll be your huckleberry!
