I first came to Nashville in 1976. I like all music lovers had stars in my eyes. After beating the streets for a few years, reality started sitting in. Working with Harold Shedd showed me a lot. Harold produced my first record about 1980. Here is the truth. If you think you can come here and sing to someone and BOOM make it. LOL. Wake up. Seeing Harold working with Alabama was the truth as to the way its done. Larry McBride brings these kids to Nashville and tried to get the labels to take them (RCA also). I didn't happen. But they didnt stop there. They went to Harold and did the Album. They then put it on MDJ RECORDS. They used Joe & Betty Gibson at NSD to do the Promoting & Distribution. Skip Stevens & Jerry Dunkin done outside promoting. There was a lot of work and money spent. To make a long story short, when the song started getting air play, It was THEN RCA who said, OK LETS TALK. I was there,I saw it. You look at 90% of the ones who make it. That's the way it was done. When you prove you can sell records then they want you. Loretta Lynn. Waylon & Willy, etc. Elvis is my favorite story. These people did their thing before anything happened. What am i saying? Prove you have it & you can sell records and then you Might have a chance. So Thats where we come in. I don't mind doing the recordings for free. But I need to sell CDs to stay in Business. Most artists forget the one word in the music business and thats BUSINESS.. You go to most studios or labels, they will record you charge you the big bucks, then send you out the door, leaving it up to you to take it from there. Here's what I did, I Recorded my songs using Harold first. Then I used Ray Pennington, Steve Scruggs, Mike Shockly, Less Ladd, before I started producing myself. I put my songs on my own label. I had T-Shits made, Hats, ect. and I put togeather a team which included my fan club. I went to radio Stations and put my product in every store that would help me. I did my own bookings, etc. Let me tell you, I ran my band and everyone to death. I made ALOT of Money. So you dont have to make it to make money here. I got caught up in this so much I started doing less for myself in the business of getting on a major Label and burned myself out. I woke up one day and I was to old to be on the road anymore. But you know music is like a drug, when you get hooked your hooked. So here I am. I can help you bypass all the wrong things I did. I won't just record you and send you on your way.
