The Craft

About Me

Atmospheric, Gothic Herefordshire quintet, with strong female vocals and a distinct pagan influence. The Craft were formed in February 1999 by vocalist Laura Vixen Marshall also known by the name Sakara & guitarist Jon Wilson. In these early years it soon became apparent that a potent song writing partnership was developing and with the inclusion of Craig Simpson on bass guitar, Duncan Arnold on drums, and Tom Legge - keyboards a new and exciting sound was born. The Craft was also interested in creating moods, bringing in drama, costumes, masks, make up, special lighting & incorporating dance etc to put on a real show, which they certainly did! For anyone lucky enough to have seen them would not forget one of The Crafts live performances. Laura was enigmatic and it was laura that gave The Craft the life and soul they held on stage. Costumes, masks & all stage ideas as well as the dances were made and choreographed by laura herself. The sound of The Craft combines powerful, haunting melodies and Laura's stunning vocals. The band have recorded an album called Ghostlands later to be recorded by band member Tom Legge. This remix is titled A return to Ghoslands and can be downloaded here on myspace for free. The Craft quickly grew very popular & gigged all over at some great shows and with some great bands some of which were Inkubus Sukubus, Devilish Presley and Faces Of Sarah. Gaining fans from all over the world. Unfortunately to many peoples dismay after 7 good years The Craft have now split. I have made this page for old fans & new so their music can still be heard and appreciated. I hope you enjoy it as much as i do.

Influences: Life, nature, heathenism, shamanism, emotions, experiences, thoughts, the occult, love, death, joy, pain, loss, birth, mystery, magic, history.A RETURN TO GHOSTLANDSStarting eerily with its multi layered chant "The Marsh", the songs cross over a baroque Gothic style with metal guitar edge. The shrill but elegant female vocals contrasts the guitar, and the drums have a tribal feel.Atmospheric before getting heavy and this gathering pace style is used throughout the album. This is a spellbindingly atmospheric cd one moment sounding like the best eastern parts from All About Eve or The Mission, the next a full force, almost metal assault.Singer laura soars above this recording, especially on tracks like Alone and Ghostlands where she is positively hypnotizing. you know she is casting a spell on you, but there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. Dark angels with its acoustic guitar and angelic voice is just beautiful, one of those that make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Dark spells indeed
Sounds Like: The Craft! They have their own unique sound
