SYNOPSIS OF STUPID KIDS:
Four kids from a suburban high school meet one night in juvenile hall, having each arrived there for different—and stupid—reasons. Judy, the school beauty, usually dates Buzz, the coolest guy in school. When she meets Jim in juvenile hall she is instantly attracted to his tough, city-boy attitude. Neechee and Kimberly are two of the outcasts and more than anything, they want Judy and Jim to be their friends—and maybe not just friends. They are unhappily in love with Judy and Jim, hoping that the two will ditch the popular conformists and join them instead.
PRODUCTION CONCEPT:
The production will feature an adult cast of 4 actors who will perform the play as written, set in the late 1980's, and a shadow cast of kids in our Youth program, who are in high school today. The two casts will be in competition with each other through youtube style portraits, spoken word, and movement styles exploring youth identity at different times.
All characters in this play are written in a broad, larger-than-life comic style but we are looking to explore the darker side. This is a funny world but underneath the kids are damaged. Actors are all playing high schoolers and must exude a palpable teen energy but we will see candidates up to age 35. All actors should be enthusiastic about this competition with the youth ensemble that will incorporate spoken work, movement, song, style and attitude.
