An Underground online Metal Magazine coming in early 2008. Stay Tuned.
In the coming weeks there will be articles on current metal events. Iam hoping to get an interview with the one and only Arjen Anthony Luccassen or 'Ayreon.' In addition some bands that I do write about may have their current single or track in the Standaloneplayer. Every track has to be approved by the staff here at Metal Universe. If you want to submit a track to get noticed we must be able to fit it in the player according to file size. We are looking forward to this new chapter in the 'OuttaMyndXMetal L.L.C. adventure.

ICED EARTH Confirmed For CHICAGO POWERFEST
American power metallers ICED EARTH have been confirmed for Chicago Powerfest 2008, set to take place on May 1-3 at The Pearl Room in Mokena, Illinois. This will be ICED EARTH's very first performance since the return of vocalist Matt Barlow.ICED EARTH founder Jon Schaffer had the following comments about their upcoming performance at the Powerfest: "A big hello goes out to all of our friends in Chi-town! I'm very happy to announce that ICED EARTH will be playing our first gig of '08 and our first gig with Matt Barlow back behind the mic at the Chicago Powerfest. It's an honor and a privilege that our first show re-united with Matt is in Chicago. This was the first city to really embrace ICED EARTH back in 1997 when we started our U.S. 'campaign.' It was also the passion of our Chicago fan base that was a big reason for the band moving out of Florida and into the Midwest. We LOVE Chicago, we have a lot of friends there and many great memories. It's only fitting that we kick off the next chapter in the city that's always been so important to ICED EARTH and our history. This very special night will be a celebration of our past as well as a celebration of a bold and bright future for ICED EARTH and our fans. We look forward to seeing you all there! It's going to be something special, guaranteed!"Festival organizers CRJ Productions commented: "After months of going after ICED EARTH, we're so ecstatic to finally make this announcement. With ICED EARTH and TESTAMENT both headlining the Powerfest this year, we whole-heartedly believe that this will one of the most anticipated American festivals of 2008 and we're looking forward to seeing the hoard of frenzied metal fans enjoying the fest right along side us."Also scheduled to appear with are Sweden's DARKANE, Germany's SUIDAKRA, Finland's ENSIFERUM and TURISAS, Denmark's TYR, Switzerland's ELUVEITIE, Florida's THE AUTUMN OFFERING, Chicago's TWELFTH GATE and Italy's CHAOSWAVE.Tickets for the ICED EARTH headlining show (May 2) will go on sale this Saturday, February 2 at all Ticketmaster locations and The Pearl Room box office. Single-day tickets for the Powerfest kick-off with Paganfest show (May 1) and the TESTAMENT headlining show (May 3) are available now.

DREAM THEATER'S GREATEST HIT (...and 21 other pretty cool songs) - due April 1st Added on 01-12-2007DREAM THEATER COLLECT THEIR GREATEST HIT(...& 21 other pretty cool songs)The Acclaimed Band’s First-Ever Best-Of Compilation Spans 14 Years of Progressive Hard Rock and Includes Rare Edits and B-SidesFeatures Three New Remixes by Kevin Shirley of“Pull Me Under,” “Take The Time” and “Another Day”Two-Disc Set Available April 1 from RhinoLOS ANGELES - After recently celebrating the band’s 20-year anniversary, Dream Theater returns with its first-ever best-of collection. Spanning 1991-2005, the two-disc set contains rare single edits, B-sides and a trio of new remixes that spotlight that band’s nonpareil musicianship, complex arrangements and amazing songwriting. Dream Theater’s GREATEST HIT (...& 21 other pretty cool songs) will be available from Rhino on April 1 at all physical retail outlets and www.rhino.com for a suggested retail price of $19.98 and at all digital retail outlets for a suggested retail price of $12.99.Referring to Dream Theater’s first and only major radio hit, “Pull Me Under,” the compilation’s tongue-in-cheek title is a testament not only to the band’s sense of humor but also highlights the acclaimed New York-based quintet’s ability to make music and cultivate a legion of fans on its own terms, without help from radio or MTV. The collection features more than two hours of progressive hard rock from James LaBrie (vocals), John Myung (bass), John Petrucci (guitar/vocals), Mike Portnoy (drums/vocals) and Jordan Rudess (keyboards). The collection contains three newly remixed versions of tracks from Dream Theater’s breakout 1992 album, Images And Words: the aforementioned “Pull Me Under” as well as “Take The Time” and “Another Day.” Portnoy says this album presented the perfect opportunity to give the songs a bit of a facelift. “The original mixes always sounded a bit ’80s’ to me, so we had our good friend and longtime mixer Kevin Shirley give the tracks a bit of an update to sound more like the rest of the Dream Theater catalog. The songs remain the same (no pun intended-Kevin just mixed that album as well), but there are little nuances in the tracks that I forgot were originally there, and it’s very cool to hear them again.”The collection’s 22 songs are split evenly between two discs, which are divided into “The Dark Side” (the metallic) and “The Light Side” (the melodic). Filled with some of the band’s most sinister sounds, the first disc lives up to the billing of “The Dark Side.” Longtime fans will appreciate the abundance of alternative versions of classic tracks, including single edits of “Lie,” “Home,” and “Misunderstood.” Disc One concludes with two tracks from the band’s 2005 album Octavarium: “The Root Of All Evil” and “Sacrificed Sons.”The second disc, “The Light Side,” spotlights the band’s melodic side and features an alternate mix of “Through Her Eyes,” a single edit of “Solitary Shell” and “To Live Forever,” a 1994 B-side from the U.K.-only single of “Lie.”A grassroots phenomenon for 20 years, Dream Theater continues to record studio albums acclaimed for award-winning musicianship as well as artistic vision. To meet the demands of a demanding global fan base, the band also maintains an active touring schedule that regularly includes sold-out performances around the world.Dream Theater has currently been on the road since June 2007, traveling the globe in support of their latest studio album Systematic Chaos. Their world tour will conclude with a final run throughout North America in May as they premiere their “Progressive Nation” package tour with Opeth, Between The Buried And Me, and 3 supporting.DREAM THEATER’S GREATEST HIT(...& 21 other pretty cool songs)Track ListingDisc 1: (The Dark Side)“Pull Me Under” (2007 Remix) “Take The Time” (2007 Remix) “Lie” (Single Edit) “Peruvian Skies” “Home” (Single Edit) “Misunderstood” (Single Edit) “The Test That Stumped Them All” “As I Am” “Endless Sacrifice” “The Root Of All Evil” “Sacrificed Sons” Disc 2: (The Light Side)“Another Day” (2007 Remix) “To Live Forever” “Lifting Shadows Off A Dream” “The Silent Man” “Hollow Years” “Through Her Eyes” (Alternate Album Mix) “The Spirit Carries On” “Solitary Shell” (Single Edit) “I Walk Beside You” “The Answer Lies Within” “Disappear”

OPETH (Watershed)
Thursday, February 07, 2008Watershed"Watershed" is the name of Opeth´s 9th studio observation. The album has just been mixed and mastered by Jens Bogren with M. Åkerfeldt. The album consist of 7 songs and the titles are as follows:1. Coil 2. Heir Apparent 3. The Lotus Eater 4. Burden 5. Porcelain Heart 6. Hessian Peel 7. Hex OmegaAll the songs have been written by M. Åkerfeldt apart from "Porcelain Heart" which was co-written with Fredrik Åkesson. One additonal track, "Derelict Herds" has also been recorded and this was written by Mikael Åkerfeldt and Per Wiberg. On top of this, 3 cover songs has been recorded. "Bridge of sighs" from Robin Trower´s 1974 Lp with the same title, "Den ständiga resan" (sung in Swedish) by Marie Fredriksson as well as the classic Alice in Chains song, "Would?".The album was recorded at Fascination street studios during November 1 and December 13. Some addtional recordings were done between January 3rd and 7th. Produced by Jens Bogren and Mikael Åkerfeldt and Opeth.Says Mikael Åkerfeldt: "I´ve worked so hard with these songs for quite some time now, I´ve listened to 'em a zillion times. I don't hate them just yet! The album sounds great sonically and I think I can hear us evolving as the record plays on. It is taking us somewhere musically and I don't know where. It's very exciting to say the least! I can't remember having enjoyed a recording this much ever before."The cover was (as usual) designed by Travis Smith in co-operation with Åkerfeldt. Release date is yet to be confirmed but Roadrunner worldwide will have it out sometime in the Springtime of this year.
