C NOTE ALBUM IN STORES 9/25/07
America is finally ready for C Note five young men whose self-titled debut, C Note, speaks for a new generation. Never before has there been a group like C Note: a group with the voices, the look, the style, the steps and, most of all, the understanding into what it means to grow up as a Latino in the United States.
Their songs snap with dance beats meet in that sweet spot where the worlds hot rhythms blend. Their singing, whether in soaring solos or rock-solid harmony, slides in and out of English, Spanish, and Spanglish, just like the language of millions of kids growing up right now throughout the United States. But as they sizzle over spare percussion tracks on Baja Panties and Lets Go, dazzle with their rhythmic precision on Curious, show their diversity in the Latin/hip-hop and reggaeton grooves of their first Latin release, Wepa, and stir deep passions on the ballad Forgive Me - their first US single, these ambitious performers make an even more crucial point: C Notes destiny goes beyond any one genre. As our society changes, as barriers between cultures fall and kids cross lines that once divided by race, class, or creed, C Note stands alone as the true sound of American youth, period.
This was the vision that Raul and David shared when they planted the seeds of CNOTE. "What we wanted, more than anything, was to have a group of five Latinos who were raised in the States with the best of both worlds, David explains, which means American pop culture with the salsa and meringue rhythm that our parents played in their houses. Thats how Raul and I grew up, and we wanted to work with guys who had the same experiences."
David and Raul organized auditions throughout the country New York, Miami, Orlando, and Los Angeles in search of the best available candidates. They heard and watched dozens of gifted performers. By the spring of 2005, Josh, Orlando and Johnathan were in place and within days everyone understood that they not only had the chops, they also shared the same concept of what C Note would represent through its music. The one thing that became apparent was that we all had the same drive, Raul continues. We all want the same thing just as much. If its like, Hey, we have to do this for the group, then nobody questions that; its like, All right, lets go.
From the beginning in fact, even before their lineup had been locked in they were writing their own songs. David, Raul, and Josh began with Wepa and grew the list from there. Two themes emerged quickly: their Latino/American foundation and their, lets say, deep appreciation for the opposite sex. These beacons guided them through hours of writing at home, in cars, in studios, and wherever else they happened to be. Everything we wrote was about what wed been going through in our lives, David says. Going through relationships, going to clubs its all about the search for that girl. Are you going to find somebody that night? Are you falling in and out of love? Basically, everything we wrote for this album comes from that.
By the time they began laying tracks; C Note had assembled a set of songs that addressed every angle of that timeless topic, from the romantic ideal in Chivalry (sung as well in Spanish, as Duena de Mi Amor) to the physical bottom line (Candela). They fleshed out these selections with a few well-chosen contributions from outside writers such as Denise Rich (Forgive Me) that added even more to the albums international and multi-stylist flavor.
All of the pieces of the picture fall into place on C Note. But even the great songs and all-star guest shots wouldnt be enough to put this effort over, if it werent for the talent and dedication of the group. Were not in this for ego reasons, insists David. Its about making this music as great as it can be. Thats why the album is called C Note, Raul adds. Were definitely a team. Our goal is to make C Note a household name, and were moving toward that goal, one step at a time. But its more than a group too, David concludes. Its not just about our music and performances. Its a movement for us and for everyone who wants to come along with us too.
Did we suggest that America is finally ready for C Note? Scratch that they're ready to take over the world. If you're young, or if you share the spirit of young people like D Lo, RaRa, J-Kid, O.T., and Jae, theres a place for you in this movement too.
