The definition of an artist is wide-ranging and covers a broad spectrum of activities to do with creating art, practicing the arts and/or demonstrating an art. By the end of the 1990s, hip hop became widely accepted in mainstream music. Rap lyrics convey the street life from which hip hop originally emerged with references to popular culture and hip hop slang.
