About Me

He does the music for himself. What the rest of the world thinks is only an afterthought.
“I do music because it's what I'm compelled to do,” says Nytmare, pausing a moment as he attempts to sum up the creative force behind what has driven him to write and record hip hop for more than 10 years. “I need to do it. It's cathartic and I can never satiate the urge any other way.”
The hip hop you'll find on Nytmare's track list is unlike what has become the status quo in popular culture. There's no pretense. There's no bling. The Worcester, MA-based MC doesn't want you to think he's a better rapper because he grew up poor in the Lakeside Projects or because his father walked out when he was two. All he wants is for you to hear him – because hip hop spoke to him, and now he speaks hip hop.
“Growing up, it felt like hip hop gave a voice to what I was going through, I could relate to it,” he explains. “It was so impactful and it's the place that I felt most comfortable going to when I needed to express myself.”
At as young as twelve years old, Nytmare can remember writing rhymes as a way to verbalize emotion. “It would be me and my boys, wed' bounce verses off each other and get ready for lunchroom battles” he laughs. “I didn't really attempt to record anything until I was about 18, and after that it became an addiction.”
More than 10 years later, Nytmare's music has grown up with him, evolving from a sometimes hobby into an introspective and implacable force in his life. “A lot of my tracks are written from the 'me versus the world' perspective,” he notes. “I'm always going back to that place inside me where I am persevering through the dark, looking for that beacon of light.”
Always gutsy, always clever, and always unassuming, the music Nytmare makes is reflective of the intricate and complex nature of the artist's mind. From aggressive bravado and startling social and political commentary to complex lyrical rhymes and abysmal metaphors, a listener goes on a dark journey in each of Nytmare's creations. They may be left feeling sometimes uneasy, or more often, intrigued, but the point is that they feel something.
“Creating music is a way for me to encapsulate me and leave my fingerprint behind, and maybe become a part of something bigger than myself,” Nytmare affirms. “It's great if it resonates with other people, but in the end, first and foremost, the music has always been for me.”
