Welcome to the Official Page of First Church of God in Christ, Clovis, New Mexico.... The First COGIC was founded in 1936 by Elder S.N. Johnson and he remained pastor until the fall of 1938. The church was then under the leadership of Elder A. Brown until 1945. Succeeding pastors were Bishop J.W. Taylor ('45-'46), Elder S.V. Brooks ('45-'54), Elder R.D. Wesson ('54-'55), Bishop J.W. Taylor ('55-'57) and Elder W.C. Green ('57- present). The First COGIC had its beginnning in a small two-room building on W. First St. In 1938, the church was moved across the street to 613 W. First St. In 1940, the building burned down, but the members were determined to rebuild the building. In 1957, under the spiritual leadership of Elder Green, the church continued to grow. Due to it's growing membership, the church needed a larger building and in 1967 the church moved to 421 Thorton St. As the Lord continued to bless the church and add to the membership, the congregation also outgrew this building. In 1979, work began on a new building, and on the first Sunday in March 1980 the first service was held in the new building located at 3400 Vinton St. Through it all, the Lord provided and the saints prevailed.
