Art for Arrested Actvists Campaign
The 128 suporters community, along with the 128 Arts Collective, is organising an art auction/sale to raise funds for the 17 arrested activists. Already some of New Zealands top street artists have offered canvas work and some work from the junior arts collective is already on sale at Oblong/Freedom Shop (I love 128 posters, to anarchy fairys, to a radical bunny with its paper cranes for peace).
At the moment we are seeking donations of art works from all art medium, so if you are an artist or have friends who are artists please ask them to donate a canvas or work. To confirm this just send an email to: [email protected] . We hope to arrange places for collection in the following centres, Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton, Auckland. At the present time Wellington pick up can ready be organised.
Also we are looking for events, and arts spaces to sell these works at. Examples are art galleries, cafes, community centres and appropriate shops. So if you have such a space or event or know people who do please ask them to help out.
As this campaign is to free the prisoners may be long, this fundraiser offers the potential to raise significant money to help pay prison accounts, legal fees, help friends and the family of the arrested with financial matters.
Art also has traditionally provided a voice to protest injustice and so this fundraiser gives a community the chance to continue this tradition. Although art work does not have to represent this struggle, or the causes the arrested stood for, it would be rad for some of them to be of this nature too! But we are happy for abstract, experimental, or just dam cute and pretty, as well."
