Jack Gauthier & Lakewest Recording Studio

About Me

Annie Lynch & the Bee Keepers
The recording process very much paralleled our initial visit to Lakewest. Each day that we would step on to the property, time would stop as we all became completely enthralled by the music. Jack was very assertive and professional in helping us to use our time as efficiently as possible. In addition he was full of great production ideas that really brought the songs to life. I particularly valued the times that I had with Jack one on one discussing everything from the recording process to the music industry to what we had for dinner last night. He made himself very available to us, a young new group, with plenty of ideas and advice that we will surely take with us for the duration of our careers. The musical and personal bond that was created between Jack and the four of us contributed greatly to the emotional quality of the album, while his extensive knowledge of the recording process and the equipment he uses contributed greatly to the technical quality. Barefoot Truth

Going into our recording session with Jack Gauthier at Lakewest Recording Studios we were nervous with anticipation and overwhelmed that we were about to record a cd with a producer who has made an impressive reputation for himself with his work on numerous independent projects. Among the bands Jack has produced we were most inspired by Dispatch. Knowing that such talented musicians had passed through, and how some of our favorite albums had come out of Lakewest definitely put some pressure on us. Yet, the clubhouse vibe of the studio and Jack’s carefree personality alleviated any fears immediately. The idea at Lakewest is to put yourself in the state of mind to create real music, music that you can feel. With a very laid back approach, Jack gives the appropriate guidance without taking over the musicians artistic endeavors. The result is an organic and unprocessed sound that captures real feeling and true musicianship. It is a sound that is distinctively Lakewest.

The Low Anthem

According to Ben Miller, writer and singer in The Low Anthem, “Jack’s the best person for the job because he won’t take any short cuts. His talents are obvious, but more importantly, he believes in the music he works with and gives every detail the attention it deserves. He has the emotional energy to work with us which says a lot because it can get really hot in the studio. A lot comes out and Jack has the best way of making sure that everybody is comfortable and able to perform without inhibition.”

Clifton Williams and the Blue James Band

"I chose to work with Jack on my latest album because I wanted someone professional, experienced, and with a great ear. Jack exceeded my expectations. He gave my songs the rootsy, organic feel that I was pushing for. He's easy to get along with, willing to go the extra mile to ensure that you're happy with the end product, and a lot of fun to work!"

Glenn Yoder

"Jack Gauthier is a confident fellow. He doesn't have that asshole-confidence, but instead exudes that pure type of confidence that one only gains through years of experience behind the boards. He knows his equipment back to front, and as I was told in advance, he goes the extra mile. Not to mention he has a cutting sense of humor that keeps the atmosphere light, yet focused. Thus, I have confidence telling you that Jack will give you what you want in a producer and/or engineer -- someone who really cares, who listens, and who will keep you in stitches. That's my testimony to Jack. Now hopefully he doesn't let it go to his head. We don't want him developing asshole-confidence."
