A preachers kid, expected to walk on water and not get wet. Constant pressure. A breakdancer slash church chior boy slash survivor of the mean streets of Chicago's south side. My young mind was clouded with thoughts of a female babysitter that felt my privates when my parents left, a mother that used to take 18 pills a day, and a brother that had epileptic ceizures but a living example of a pure heart. Those challenges could've driven me in any direction, AND IT DID!! After the JaySelf Rebellion... it drove me straight to music.For me HIP HOP, R&B, GOSPEL and REGGAE was the best form of theraphy and the rawest form of Escapism. From the streets of Chicago, I began this journey breakdancin' & freestylin' to music from various hip hop icons like Doug E Fresh, KRS ONE, Eric B & Rakim, Run DMC, and many others. A barber by trade, I used my earnings to finance my first Ep. Then I began to align myself with the movers and shakers of the industry to score numerous performances for some of the biggest names in Hip Hop. I have opened concerts/shows for Busta Rhymes, EVE, Elephant Man, and even Jay Z's after concert party in Chicago. I didn't stop there, I put Chicago on notice by winning the "107.5 WGCI FRESHEST MC CONTEST" and having his single "SAY WHAT" placed in rotation with local radio stations and dj's. Shortly afterwards, SELF set Michigan on FIRE, then went to Atlanta and WON "1st" place in the Million Dollar Music & Radio Fest! Today I'm a permanent staple on the music and entertainment scene (um not goin nowhere yaw) with my face on commercials, as well as top rated cable shows such as "REAL FLAVA TV". Currently I'm co-starring in a cable comedy series sitcom about the music industry (hopefully they'll get the budget right), Marketing HOT NEW REMIXES, and blazin' intro's for radio station dj SAM SYLK (WGCI).I released my "MOST ENTERTAINING" album yet with JAYSELF THE ALBUM.
