Last update: 28 th February 2009
Welcome to the metrokueen myspace!!
The band started out as a project originally in February 2007, when guitarists and long-time friends 'Billy', and Pete' teamed up to Jam for the fun of it, under the name "The D:RR Project" (Destination: Rock n' Roll Project). After Billy finished some other projects, and parted from his former band, it turned out that the project needed to become something more. Not before long 'Billy' and Pete hit the road in search for a drummer.
Nothing really happened before mid-June of that same year, until Billy met by chance old school friend and drummer 'Kim Burns' where he was wearing a band t-shirt that 'Billy' was into. It led 'Billy' to phone Kim the day after to try out with him and Pete'. After a few jams the Trio hit the road together out in search of a bass player and a vocalist to complete the line-up. In the meantime, the project decided they needed an Identity for the band something which sounded better and more concrete than "The D:RR project" they were now to be called 'Metro-Queen' later changed into 'Metrökueen'
After putting up ads everywhere on the internet, 'Billy' came across a vocalist's (Shawn Ryan) profile on the web in September, after hearing some samples of his work. 'Billy' contacted Shawn Ryan, and asked him up for an audition. Shawn blended in easily with the band, and so they started working on some serious work, both of which were cover and original. Metrökueen tried out different bass guitarists in the process, and one bass guitarist came across. After the band decided to enter a battle of the bands TV competition, the bass guitarist left the band, since he and the band never had chemistry together whatsoever. Bass guitarist "cikku" who used to play in a band with Billy; joined the band to fill in the place for that one off show (RockBaze).
Metrokueen played live for the very first time on this show, and won 3rd prize from the Jury and 2nd place by televoting. Not much later the Band was booked for a full gig, still without a Bassist they were in a desperate race against time in search for the right person to fill the Vacancy and learn the gig's set list consisting of both original and cover songs for just one night, this is were James 'Jelly' came in. Shawn's Girlfriend Stefania (who had also written some lyrics for some of the Band's original songs) contacted a friend who happened to know 'Jelly' Bassist for local band White Crimson. 'Jelly' gigged with the band and after the night was over, he announced, he would join the band only if they wanted to. So the band, without any doubt accepted Jelly's offer and welcomed Jelly in the band.
The Band worked hard after some great events and Gigs, Metrokueen was doing very well improving their style, image, song-writing and performance whilst learning and acquiring more and more experience with every Gig and jamming performed. But May 2008, meant trouble for the band and so they parted ways with their Vocalist, and Bassist on an amicable basses. In quite a few days, the band found several other Singers and Bassists that helped the band along the way. Meanwhile the band signed up for a band competition and hit the stage with their first song ("The time is now") for the XFM's Virtual Rockstar making it through the Finals.
Two months had passed since the break-up with the original front man (Shawn Ryan) for the band. In the meantime Shawn Ryan teamed up with 'Billy' once again for a side project called Dayline. Shawn always had chemistry working with 'Billy' and decided to meet with the other Metrokueen members for a chat. This led for both parties to consider teaming up once again as the original Metrokueen used to be. The Band re-discussed some issues and after some jamming sessions Shawn Ryan retook his place as the Band's front man and singer. Few weeks later the band worked with a few bassist and made it fit just right; shows were played amazingly great, and in the meantime the band finished 2nd Place in a Band Challenge (Poxx Bar / Shuffle - Lidea Band Challenge), and won the "Best Live Performance Award".
For Music we live and for Music we die, our music reflects our feelings and emotions, coming out from deep within our very souls. Every song we do, we believe to be a work of Art crafted from the essence of our hopes and dreams. A musician is born not made, we believe that we shall kick ass but still we believe that everyday we grow musically stronger until the day we die.
"...The tune is called Nowhere to Run and it's delightfulness is only rivaled this week by the guitar chimes at the heart of the Metrokueen song I played..." - Toni Sant comparing Alistair's (Colourblind) Nowhere to Run, with metrokueen's Insanity's solo.
"...A Real Rock N' Roll band; Real leather, Denim, Cowboy Hats, Bracelets, Silver and Rock.. welcome up the stage... metrokueen!" - XFM
