My name is David Williams. I've been playing and writting music for over 30 years. I love the creation process of discovering new sounds, grooves, riffs... anything that grabs the ear. If I have one gift, it is I seem to have a knack for coming up with stuff that gets stuck in your head. It's all about the melody. So many musicians overlook the value and importance of melody today. The melody is what people will remember... or forget! As a musician, I push my self to play with complexity. The only problem with that is peoples ears struggle to keep up with all the notes. This is why only musicians seem to like jazz, for the most part. The average music listener can only focus on one melody riff or groove at the same time. Give the listener a catchy melody and they will love it. Give them two or three melodies at the same time and they will hate it. So the old cliche really is true, "less is more." I am always striving to find that balance of complexity vs. simplicity in each song. Complex enough to keep the attention of the aspiring artist yet simple enough so as not to lose the majority of the audience. All this said... recently I've discovered a new passion, The marriage of video and music. I have tons of snippets in my drawer --- Lot's of ideas I've record but never finished. These snippets once in a while get pulled out and added on to and eventually become complete songs. But many of the other ideas never seem to see the light of day. Film scoring gives me new hope that some of these ideas will eventually be heard. Cool grooves, to short to be a song, will work great for a few seconds of mood setting sound on film. For this reason, I am actively searching for films to score. And, the best part for you starving filmmakers... I will work for free and credits; at least for now until I build up a nice portfolio and become better known. Of course I do expect compensation if the project becomes successful. I have some nice gear and can make some nice sounds... BIG SOUNDS!!! CINEMATIC SOUNDS!!! So give me a try, you might just like what you hear.
