While my guitar gently weeps.
I, George Harrison, was born in Liverpool, England, on 25 February to Louise and Harold Harrison. I’m the youngest of four, so, of course, I get the best looks! I’ve always been regarded as the “quiet one”, but it’s not always true. You see, I prefer to concentrate rather than speak aloud. I leave that to John. …but I’m getting ahead of myself. I’m starting too far off in the future, really.
My life was a normal one for a bloke like me growing up in Liverpool might have. Went to school, worked with my da, loved my mum…but it changed. Everything changed when I met Paul. It was during my education in the Liverpool Institute for Boys when the fated meeting came about. I was always called the “one who would sit alone in the corner.” But back to Paul…
He even asked me later on to join this band called the Quarrymen. I was the youngest member and always looked upon as the weakest link, but it soon changed. Soon, I gained respect from every member. Even John. But my mother was my biggest fan. She used to yell at gigs and embarrass me. I still loved her behind closed doors. I was becoming a man now…I couldn’t exactly give her a quick peck and grin before going on. I’d be ruined. …even with all the Jelly Babies being thrown at me, I was more afraid of being laughed at by the boys than getting me eye poked out.
Good thing I needn’t worry about that. Our career started taking off and we began an artistic ‘cleansing’ of sorts. We changed our looks, changed our name, wrote new material and became the band we are today. The Beatles. The Fab Four. Really, we’re just four boys from Liverpool that wanted to make music. Fame means nothing to us [well, …me, at least]. It’s all about the music, baby.
Those that know me, or know of me, say I’m the 'quiet Beatle'. Well, when you have a thousand thoughts running through your head and don’t want to act like your insane by talking a hundred miles a minute and scaring people with outbursts, …you sort of have to be. But that wasn’t all. You see, I was never allowed to be heard. Paul and I had a few rows about the way I played and my ability, leading me to keeping my mouth shut, though I did burst into a rant a few times. How could I not?
But in the end, we’re still a band. We’re brothers and we always will be, no matter what tears us apart. And I’m proud to be a part of it. Of the group, of the music, of the legend.
The boys.
The fans.
